@MakoTensei I'd imagine it'd also be a matter of personal pride for them as well. After working your ass off on a game, it's got to be cool as hell when you finally have that disc in your hand and get to see it out in the wild. Digital games you don't really that experience.

@ChazouNo1Fan Any stat can be twisted to suit a narrative. I dont believe getting rid of physical, even if it was as low as 10% is of benefit to anyone. And we constantly see for example capcom games sell out outright physically. Re9 was just unavailable for a while

@MakoTensei Astro Bot absolutely had a stronger physical showing than most modern PlayStation games, but it still at best looks 50/50. It’s also worth remembering that most of the data people reference comes from physical retail charts (GfK/Famitsu), which don’t include PS Store sales.

@ChazouNo1Fan How is it misleading? Even outside of it, Astrobot sold leaning harder into physical and thats more recent too.

@MakoTensei I like this thought and I’m sure it’s true to an extent. However, that insomniac leak is extremely misleading, digital games for the last 3-5 years usually sell 9:1 over physical unfortunately. That’s the metrics Sony is chasing, however, fans should keep fighting the good fight

Not only that. I'm sure many developers get an immense sense of satisfaction seeing the game they helped make FINALLY on a store shelf or held in their hands. Willing to bet it's one of the biggest moments to a first time studio developer.

The only stats showing decent physical sales splits were from the Insomniac leak, but those games were from the covid era or even older. The numbers were also inflated due to Sony counting console bundle codes as physical game sales. Each digital first party game sale also makes 53% more revenue than if it had been bought physically, so these studios have nothing to worry about unless they're financially illiterate like you.
