Why was the enrolment of fee-paying civilian students to Kotelawala Defence University's MBBS prog abruptly stopped? KDU doesn't know and no written directive was ever given to the VC. Only a statement in parliament. @Dr_HariniA@anuradisanayakesundaytimes.lk/250601/news/no…
I’m a doctor- and what I’m witnessing right now in Colombo and Kotte is frightening.
Although it's not the first time but yes this has become a seasonal disaster every now and then.
Chikungunya is back, and it’s not coming quietly. In just the past few days, I’ve treated patients—some as young as 12, some over 70—crippled by joint pain so severe they couldn’t walk.
"One elderly man sobbed in my clinic, not because of the fever, but because he couldn't hold a spoon."
Cases are rising fast.
🦟 The Aedes mosquito doesn’t need a dirty swamp—just a flowerpot.
The virus causes fever, rash, and joint pain—but it’s the long-term pain that ruins lives.
There’s no cure. No vaccine. Only painkillers and hope.
30–70% of people develop chronic arthritis-like pain lasting months or even years. Some never fully recover. For the poor, this means lost wages. For the elderly, lost mobility. For all of us—it means a health disaster we can still prevent.
But we’re running out of time.
✅ Clear standing water.
✅ Wear long sleeves.
✅ Use repellents.
✅ Shut your doors before dusk.
✅ Don’t ignore early symptoms.
You have the power to stop this—starting at home.
Please act now. Don’t wait for the pain to knock on your own door.
Share this. Clean your space. Protect your loved ones.

🚨Global Extinction🚨
A BirdLife International co-authored paper published today has revealed the tragic loss of one of the world’s migratory shorebirds – the Slender-billed Curlew.🌊❌
This is the first known global bird extinction from mainland Europe, North Africa and West Asia.🌍
The last irrefutable sighting of the Slender-billed Curlew was in February 1995 in Morocco.🐦
This new study is a stark warning of the need to tackle the loss and degradation of inland grassland and wetland nesting areas and coastal wetland non-breeding areas, among other pressures.⏳
Urgent coordinated conservation action is critical to preventing further extinctions of migratory waterbirds.💧
