To be fair, both played the same thing, just on the opposite sides of the aisle. For one of them, the media portrayed him as a new type of Jesus. However, he embraced it and did not reject it, and look how the nation ended. Then comes the second one who portrayed himself as such and not even attaches himself to christian doctrine when truly it needs to be done so. Is just how humanity, and in particular people in power, lets it be when it comes to their own glorification without an understanding of humility and prudence.
