Pleased to have been a part of the transformative plastic #waste mgmt initiative to address 🇱🇰s growing #env crisis. This new project, supported by @UNDPSriLanka & the Govt w/ funding from the Coca-Cola Foundation focuses on creating a comprehensive plastic waste mgmt framework.

The launch was graced by H.E. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Hon. Chief Justice Murudu Fernando, the Ambassador of @JapanEmb_SL, H.E. Mr. Akio ISOMATA, Ms. @AzusaKubota, Resident Rep @UNDP #lka alongside ambassadors, heads of international organizations, and senior #government officials.

⚖ #SriLanka took a significant leap forward in the fight against corruption this morning. The National Anti-Corruption Action Plan I2025–2029 which underscores Sri Lanka’s commitment to tackling corruption was launched today by @CIABOC_SriLanka with technical support from @UNDP #lka and funding from the @JapanGov. It lays out a strategic and coordinated approach to curb corruption’s far-reaching impact on #public institutions and economic growth.

The 'Lesser-known Foods of Sri Lanka' campaign was a joint effort between the @Min_of_Env_SL, @UNDP #lka and @WFPSriLanka as an activity of the Early Action Support (EAS) project funded by @theGEF. Activities of the campaign included the curation of a recipe book featuring over 50 recipes with the support of the Dept. of Agriculture. Regional events to reach hotel school students and caterers from the WFP's Home Grown School Feeding project with the support of Thema Collection. Two sampling stations were set up for the public to try underutilized foods prepared by celebrity chef Publis and chef Namal. A successful 6 week-long campaign ended with a cook-off between the three finalists of the 'Lesser-known Foods of #SriLanka' cooking competition. The finalists of the competition were: Panchamee Hewavissenti (Runner-up) - Curried Wild Figs Udeshika Hansani (Runner-up) - Madatiya dalu curry Dayathree Nayanathara Munasinghe (Winner) - Cashew leaf curry The three contestants prepared 3 unique dishes, each using underutilized food as the main ingredient. The judges for the final included @MalinHerwig OIC of @UNDP #lka, Ms Sachi Tanaka Second Secretary of the @JapanEmb_SL and Ms. Dilka Pieris, Nutrition specialist from @WFPSriLanka, popular social media chef Dinux Kitchen, and the former Director of the Bidoversity Secretariat Ms. Sujeewa Fernando.

The @UNSriLanka Country Team met with the Minister and Deputy Minister of Youth & Sports to discuss supporting the government in strengthening youth participation in decision-making. We also encouraged broader consultations in developing the National Youth Policy.

#Collaboration fuels progress. The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, in partnership with @UNDP #lka and @UNFPASriLank, hosted the National Planning & Priority Setting Workshop for the Multi-Sectoral National Action Plan to Address SGBV (2024-2028), this morning. With the generous support of the Government of Norway (@NorwayMFA) in formulating the NAP and the Government of Canada (@CanHCSriLanka) in operationalizing it, this second phase builds on the 1st phase (2016-2021) which aimed to create a more comprehensive and impactful response to #SGBV. This shows the continued determination to address #SGBV and strengthen the overall rights of women, and girls in #SriLanka.

As part of @theGEF funded @Min_of_Env_SL @UNDP #lka & @WFPSriLanka's advocacy efforts to promote the use of underutilised crops, a pop-up sampling station was debuted at Diyatha Uyana, Battaramulla yesterday. Over 500 delicious samples of traditional yams, bites, drinks and desserts were prepared by celebrity Chef Publis and his team and distributed to the people present. And, the line was non-stop! At the Commercial Mediation Symp ydy by IADRC @Asia_Foundation, supported by @EU_in_Sri_Lanka funded #JURE proj by @UNDP @UNICEF_SriLanka @MOJSriLanka, commended #lka’s commitment to fostering com mediation as an efficient dispute reso mechanism aligning w/ global best practices

The Commercial Mediation Symposium 2025 took place yesterday, providing legal practitioners with invaluable insights on the value of commercial mediation. The Symposium was conducted by the International ADR Center with support from @Asia_Foundation. It is an initiative of the Support to Justice Sector (#JURE) project, funded by the @EU_in_Sri_Lanka, jointly implemented by @UNDP #SriLanka and @UNICEF_SriLanka, and facilitated by the @MOJSriLanka.

Landmine clearance in Sri Lanka is expected to be completed by 2030. Powerful discussions with @TheHALOTrust , @MAGsaveslives, @UNDPSriLanka and @IOMSLandMV hearing about landmine clearance for conflict affected communities and their hopes for the future.
