First, stepping on someone's foot unintentionally is not the same as ticking everyday uncontrollably and offending and apologizing nonstop. It does get exhausting. You also have some control over your body and where you put your feet. John's neurons are misfiring. Second, the professional field for tourettes now advocates for not apologizing for tics not just because it's exhausting but because it reinforces the taboo nature and increases reoccurrences of the same tics. Last, I am also noticing that John is being held to impossible standards where even when he apologizes, even when the attendees were warned, he is still guilty of something. First it was "he meant it", then it was "he didn't mean it but he should apologize", then he releases a statement and it's not good enough. Then he privately apologizes and thats STILL not enough. I think there is a conscious or subconscious need to get a confession out of him or otherwise make him guilty. I get that it is driven by trauma and outrage which is understandable but I really don't think it is advancing the situation.
