Part of why conventional politics has rapidly become a dead end is 21st century Republicans do not believe Democrats exist. They genuinely think we're just a bunch of immigrants and voter fraud in a trench coat. To them, California is an R+99 state under occupation.
Andrew Kloster@ARKloster

POV: you do that and also limit it to individuals whose genetic material has been in this hemisphere since before 1970.

@ChainPlatonic That is an abyssmally bleak way to look at life, my mom put herself through college as an auto mechanic and has had an amazing life and a fulfilling career. Saying hardship irreparably damaged her is just insulting.

It kind of is. I hate to say this, because it is dismal, but the worst thing that can happen to a brilliant kid is to be born poor. Most are irreparably damaged by such an upbringing and no amount of mentorship and remediation can fix it.

@MischievousCur I think social media raised our expectations. We believe it is abuse to raise a child in anything less than an upper class life. That combined with workism, where work is the center of most people’s lives, to the point where family, friends and community are seen as distractions

Wow I guess Dallas landlords are way less greedy than landlords in other cities, or interest rates are dramatically lower, or there’s no demand because everyone is leaving. Supply can’t lower prices, so it must be those other things…
Rick Palacios Jr.@RickPalaciosJr

In #Dallas, renting a home hasn’t been this affordable since 2008.

@MattLaneWrites @kfed1011 I’m curious, did you have family or community support, I know that’s something my wife and I are worried about, if we move to a big city, kids just won’t happen since there’s no family/community that’s willing to help, so the extra money will replace them with paid services?

@kfed1011 Costs of renting are significantly lower than cost of buying in the DC area. We've bought a house since then, but couldn't afford the higher mortgage payment until finishing daycare and loans.

@TheGrapeGatsby2 @EWErickson So you have no long term plan except to doom online? Between you and the communists, I'm not sure which is more depressing to hear.

@ManMitchLegend @EWErickson I don't pretend that responding to Virginia Democrats' power grab will save the country. I am doubtful the republic can be saved at this point. Ceding power to Democrats will hasten its demise, though. What benefit is there to the GOP in accepting VA without a response?

@TheGrapeGatsby2 @EWErickson I am asking your next step after that? Once you win, both sides have gone scorched earth, what is step 2?

@ManMitchLegend @EWErickson Again, Democrats escalated by creating the most gerrymandered map in US history. Republicans unilaterally standing down isn't going to save the republic. It would hasten its demise by handing power to the Democrats. Every Red state should gerrymander to the fullest extent.

@ManMitchLegend @EWErickson Bipartisanship no longer exists. Democrats can complain about Texas, but California already responded. Virginia was a substantial escalation. Republicans would be fools to stand down, especially since fully gerrymandered states would result in a substantial GOP majority.

@LtRevDan I mean, rewriting the rules to enshrine your power even if Dems were to win by 15 points statewide is imppressive ngl. I just don't think parties getting to choose their voters is a real desire from the grassroots, more a top-down agenda.

Have some decorum! Very unfortunate to see how dems will meltdown when faced with the consequences of getting out-worked by grassroots republicans in Florida!

@TheGrapeGatsby2 @EWErickson So your argument is that we shouldn't attempt any bipartisan reform, we should instead go scorched earth on one another until when?

@ManMitchLegend @EWErickson Texas wasn't the first state to gerrymander, and isn't even the most gerrymandered. Maryland voted 37% R in 2024, but Democrats took 7 of 8 seats. NC, Ill and SC are similarly askew one way or the other. VA Democrats got greedy. GOP states must do the same.

I've said this over and over again, but Democrats have to stop doing "look at my chart" or "look at this trend" with crime. There is too much violent crime and low-level disorder in all U.S. cities. As part of a welfare and quality-of-life agenda, Democrats must propose firm-but-fair measures to push crime lower in our communities and increase the perception of safety and order.
Lakshya Jain@lxeagle17

There is a good case to make that Democrats are failing to grow because they're losing new Trump-disapproving voters on issues. Look at crime, for instance, where Trump-disapproving GOP voters split 47-1 (!) for the GOP on trust.

In our new poll today, Trump approval is at -22. Two months ago, it was at -15. Meanwhile, the generic ballot has gone from D+6 to...D+6. There's a good argument to be made that Dems are hitting a bit of a ceiling here due to choices they've made. theargumentmag.com/p/why-democrat…

@ManMitchLegend @EWErickson That's the precedent Virginia set. It would be foolish for Red states not to do the same. As I said, the die is cast. Every state should gerrymander to the greatest extent possible.
