So many reels & videos feel deeply embarrassing. Pointing at the air & making silly little faces into the selfie mirror, then hunching gremlinlike over your little rectangular friend later to add emojis … talking into a fuzzy microphone the size of a chicken McNugget … absurd

How is making a reel not a humiliation ritual? I can’t stop myself from thinking about all the camera positioning and editing that goes into those videos and wondering how anyone works themselves up to making one.

There are many gems in the Lindy West book but my favorite bit that people seem to have missed is when she befriends this 7 year old and sweetly plays football with him only for her to realize this *child* is wearing a Trump hat and she’s immediately like “I always hated him.”

so much of the “should i use AI to help me write” conversation seems to boil down to people not having or trusting friends. Only this morning someone asked me to read something for them. I do that all the time. Others do that for me. Because we’re, y’know … friends & stuff
