Looking for a new book? Consider checking out my novelette about a sheltered nobleman's daughter gradually turning into a remorseless criminal 🙂 If you like gritty fantasy-esque settings, short reads that makes you think, and a little bit of humour to top it all off, you might enjoy Window of Opportunity. books2read.com/u/3yQ72L #Readers #booktwt #BookLovers #ReadersOfTwitter #Novelette #ShortFiction #Fantasy #Gore #ShortBook #QuickRead #CharismaticCriminal

Just dug out an old laptop thinking I could use it for book formatting purposes instead of sitting at my desktop. Managed to get it to turn on. It doesn't even have MS Word 🤣

#FantasyIndiesNovember 22 I love this snippet. It is in equal parts stupid and genius. (Context: Domestic animals don't really exist in Seraea other than livestock and the occasional exception. Earlier on in the story, the main characters help a shepherd village which is plagued by wolves by giving them the "Golden Horn" — a mythical silent whistle said to bend the will of the wolf — which they just so happened to have. A really annoying side character is dubbed "Royal Wolf Whisperer" and when they meet her again she has a pack of tamed wolves. As RWW, she feels it is her duty to join the war effort.)

Random #ATOTH trivia: Azrael wasn't named after the angel, he was named after this minor side character from Spyro 3, who was named after the cat from the Smurfs, who was named after the angel.

I have mixed feelings. I grew up with pubs, and I've got a lot of happy memories of various family friendly beer gardens (and of button-mashing flashing fruit machines for funzies). My dad taught me to play pool in pubs, and it became one social activity I enjoyed as I got older. As a teenager, I started drinking a lot as a way to cope with social situations and sensory overload. I was undiagnosed so I didn't realise at the time, but going to the pub, having a few drinks and a few games of pool seemed like a good way to continue to engage with the social groups I'd found myself a part of. It really depends which pub, though. You go somewhere familiar, with the same faces and the same routine, it's not too bad. You go somewhere new, you might be fine, or you might have a bunch of Roight Proper Old Local Boys staring you down like you've just walked into their living room. You go somewhere too popular, it's packed and noisy. You go somewhere not popular enough, it ends up being sold and turned into a Wetherspoons and they get rid of the pool table even though they built a massive extension and could easily have sacrificed a couple of seats to retain it in the raised area to the left as you walk in, and now the only other pub in town with a pool table is constantly RAMMED. Chain breweries briefly became my special interest for literally NO REASON for a period of time as well. Probably partially due to needing to know where might reliably have menu items myself and my Autistic Horde can actually consume, and partially because isn't it curious why Premier Inn always has a Brewers Fayre or a Table Table? Do these questions play on anyone else's minds until they realise they have the power of knowledge at their fingertips and dive down a rabbit hole of Totally Relevant Research? And thus commences the internal war: Yes, I want to go eat at the Whitbreads and yes it's because I want the eton mess which 9/10 times is inexplicably unavailable but no I can't sit in that crowded area over there and no I can't sit on that table with peas under it and yes I will feel as though I'm inconveniencing everyone within a 20 mile radius by even suggesting such an unthinkable excursion and no I don't want a glass with my drink but thank you for bringing one anyway and can I please have another identical one before the internal war becomes an external war because I can't give just one member of the Autistic Horde my unwanted Fancy Glass so nowadays I much prefer to stay home 🙃

#FantasyIndiesNovember 30 Let's be real, I am the worst possible person to ask for marketing tips! I've had a few ideas, such as: — Leaving copies of my book lying around in places where they might be found and picked up¹. — Filming a video of me very nicely and sweetly asking people to read my book, with my partner behind me looking very scary making threatening² gestures. — Writing fanfic of my own characters and posting it on Ao3 so that people who stumble across my profile might get curious and look up the source material³. However, I'm not convinced any of these will work, although they'll probably be fun to do so I don't really care. My main priority is getting #ATOTH out there in the first place. Can't market that which does not exist and so on and so forth. I'll just have to trust it'll get found by the right kind of misfit and word-of-mouth itself the small yet dedicated fandom it probably deserves. 😁 ¹ I actually tried this with Window of Opportunity. I stuck a #WOOFreeBook bookplate in the front instructing whoever finds it to pass it on after they've read it (or if they don't like it) so more people can benefit from a free book, but I don't think it was ever found... ² This would be done in an "obviously joking" manner, but he's quite convincingly big and scary-looking so I'm not sure it'd land in the desired way 🤣 ³ I don't know how to add a new fandom, though, which may be a pitfall.

This is the Sunburst Candy Spider from Thailand. Not AI (sucks to have to declare this). Very real and had been on my wish list for a long time. The taxonomic placement is unclear, so we are leaving it at Cyrtarachninae.
