Today, I saw my school girlfriend again. After many years. We spoke for a few minutes like two normal people catching up after a long time. “How have you been?” “What are you doing these days?” “Life going well?” Then she said something very casually. “I’m getting married soon.” For a moment, everything went quiet. It wasn’t jealousy. It wasn’t anger. It was something heavier… regret. Back then, when she was part of my life, I wasn’t ready. Not emotionally. Not mentally. Not even in life. I was still trying to understand myself. Still struggling with direction. Still trying to build something for my future. And that’s when the thought hit me… painfully clear. “If I had this maturity back then… If I had valued the relationship more… If I hadn’t let the silence grow…” Maybe things could have been different. Now I have two things: Growth and maturity. But I don’t have her. That’s the cruel part of life no one really talks about. Sometimes you become the right person after losing the right one. Regret doesn’t shout. It whispers. It appears quietly in moments like this and asks: “What if?” And the hardest truth to accept is this: There’s nothing you can do now. No message can change the present. No explanation can rewind time. Some doors close silently and never open again. Some people come into your life not to stay forever, but to teach you something about timing. And sometimes that lesson is painful. So if you have someone in your life who genuinely cares about you and you genuinely love them… Don’t take them for granted. Don’t assume they will always stay. Because one day you might have the life you once dreamed of… but the person you wanted to share it with may already be gone. 💔
