Here’s the issue with this stance from Sawiris… buying clubs have them by the balls this Summer and they know it. Villa will breach Uefa SCR for a third year in a row without massive player profits this summer. That’s beyond doubt. And given the scale of 2025’s breach, it will be over 10% as it stands. That means a 75-100% fine of the overspend. Any player profit they make this summer is effectively divided by 3, because they must use the average over the prior 36 months. If Villa sell Rogers for £90m instead of £116m, they miss out on £20m in profit sure (there’s a 20% sell on). But by selling him for £90m, they save themselves £18-24m in SCR fines. In effect, for every £10m of player profit they generate, they save ~£2.5m in Uefa fines. It makes offers they receive 25% more valuable There’s also the added benefit of avoiding the €15m contingent fine from 2025 being realised and avoiding a breach of the Uefa settlement agreement for 26/27 that could result in another €5m fine and a 1-year ban from Uefa competitions.
