@PodcastHundred It would be fantastic btw, if we decide that the man to balance it all out is Paul Walter! Legend of a man. Have no doubt that Markram will open and be an effective sixth bowler. Can see Jos at 3, with Seifert playing the Salt role by taking it on from ball one.

@PodcastHundred A really good listen, but you are (as ever) too low on the Super Giants! I get the lack of flexibility, but we arguably have the strongest top six, three top seamers and two quality spinners. Would take that all day long! I agree the Spirit are probably the strongest on paper.

The talk pre-auction and the response to this signing is the most depressing thing I have seen in cricket. Huge respect to @sunrisersleeds for being strong enough to judge a player based on cricketing ability. It is an important step and one we hope MSG will follow in due course.

It is clear that Aiden Markram was a priority for the Super Giants and it makes sense to give him the armband. He is a proven leader and we want Jos to be free to focus on dominating the competition with the bat. We are excited to see what a Markram led side can do in Manchester.

@t20tracker Without a doubt it would be Farhan Ahmed. As franchises look to secure young players for the long term, I am amazed that no one took the opportunity to tie Farhan down. Would have been a smart move at the back end of the auction.

The only bad thing about securing Josh Tongue, was that we thought it meant that we would have to watch our breakthrough star of 2025 move elsewhere. Sonny made a huge impression and it is amazing that we pulled off the double signing.

To round off an excellent day, we have some other favourites returning. Great to see Tom Hartley back. Max Holden made a positive impression on us first time around, so that was nice to see. We could just do with a 2m legend, who was an iconic Original to top things off.

With the top of the order sorted and a strong bowling attack in place, it all became about bolstering the middle order. A premium has been paid for Leus Du Plooy, so that would suggest that the Super Giants hierarchy see something that they really like in him.

The worry when you invest in Tongue and Baker is that you are going to see a big drop off in quality, when you try to find your third seamer. Except somehow the Super Giants managed to add one of England’s finest in Gus Atkinson! Truly outstanding work.

Going into the auction we were desperately hoping the Super Giants would do what they could to get Josh Tongue back in Manchester. He keeps getting better and is quickly becoming the best pace bowler in the country. This was great work.

The only concern we had with the quality of Markram and Buttler, was would our top 3 lack the explosiveness offered by Phil Salt. The signing of Tim Seifert answers that question. One of the stars of the recent T20 World Cup, he could be a brilliant signing.

It is rare in an auction that the first three players that you really want to see land all head in your direction, but the signings of Markram, Tongue and Baler were exactly what we were hoping for. After that the squad filled up nicely and we are satisfied with a job well done.

@JackRuleLD I get that completely. Would have much preferred at least 4 or 5 retentions, as maintaining a link with what went before felt important. A total reset probably helps us out in terms of competing for trophies, but I hope this level of churn is the exception rather than the rule.

@ManchesterSGs Tbh I’m a bit disillusioned with the whole comp this year, feels very much like it’s a different comp. We’ve basically got rid of any players that had performed for us in previous years. On paper it should be a good side but I’m not sure it will gel together

The only real disappointments were that Beth Mooney was snatched away from us after a strong pursuit and that the irrepressible Amanda-Jade Wellington went unsold. Wello is an absolute superstar and the competition will be poorer for her absence.
