UPDATE: Garissa Governor Nathif Jama on Thursday joined his Kitui counterpart Julius Malome in offering condolences to the family of 14-year-old schoolboy James Mutemi, who was allegedly killed by suspected camel herders in Tseikuru, Kitui County, on Tuesday.
The two governors led a peace meeting at Nguni Market, where Governor Jama personally conveyed condolences to the boy’s mother. She described James as her firstborn child.
Governor Jama strongly condemned the killing, stating there was no justification for taking the innocent boy’s life.
He also used the occasion to demand swift action against a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer allegedly involved in the shooting and killing of taxi driver Ahmed Sheikh Omar in Modika, Garissa, last week.
Both governors urged residents to remain calm and allow the law to take its course as investigations into the incidents continue.

Human rights activist Hussein Khalid: Can Garissa police arrest killer cop Kyalo and stop deflecting their failure to arrest him to Garissa community and leaders?
The National Police Service must be accountable, and when they fail to do their work and let killers on the loose, they must be told off.
