That’s why central banks manipulate the gold price by artificially shorting it via paper contracts on the Comex to prevent individuals from accumulating it. Let’s not forget the U.S. outlawed the possession of gold in 1932 to prop up the paper markets. Articles like this remind us that the world’s financial system is on very shaky ground. Western government debt levels are unsustainable and the bond markets are on very shaky ground. Gold has always been insurance against reckless government spending/borrowing. Rather than sell our gold, the Australian government should be accumulating it. Any attempt by central banks to take our gold needs to be stopped stone cold dead. That includes bringing our gold back home, away from the clutches of the Bank of England.
