@NiceJackIn2026 Baseball shouldn’t be short term for the kid that I am talking about. He is extremely polished and has a future if he can stay healthy.

@MannyParra26 Right, because the experience of the .0001% of baseball players who reach MLB should represent the 99.9% of us who are done (at the latest) at 18. Baseball’s a short-term game for almost everybody. Most of us can’t just blow fastballs past everyone at that age. Calm down. Jesus.

I just watched a young man with a ton of talent throw 95% breaking balls at the age of 12 for 6 full innings just to win a stinking Cooperstown championship. I’m disgusted with these coaches that are calling the pitches. And yes it’s the coaches calling the pitches.

@CPWolfDad @JonChumbler I’ve read the different stuff that Andrew’s wrote. I don’t know what it is with some people talking about stuff they have never experienced or actually understand. Your credibility is shot.

The funny thing is, I’m not impacted by a Dunning Krueger effect, I actually took the time and effort with sports medicine doctors in Texas to get myself educated on what we should teach our youth players about throwing and arm health. That data coming from Dr James Andrews, an Expert

@CPWolfDad @JonChumbler Ha yeah right. You really expect me to believe Dr Andrew’s would have no problem with a kid 12 years old throwing 147 pitches between two games in one day and of the 122 pitch complete game approximately 100 being breaking balls. Get outta here with that.

@CPWolfDad @JonChumbler Dunning Kruger effect here. But what do I know? Guess what pitch I fractured my elbow on in high school at 16? Knuckle Curve. Know why? Growth plates.

@MannyParra26 @JonChumbler So why be so “vague” as to say breaking ball, the narrative is always curve balls. I know what a slider is, taught it…it’s completely different than a curve…and even more than a knuckle curve. The knuckle curve puts WAY less stress on an arm than a fastball. Thanks for tapping

@rugsforyou Nice 14 followers douchebag. Maybe my response can help you out a bit. Arguing with smart people is hard but arguing with dumb people is nearly impossible. Which is exactly what you proved here.

@NiceJackIn2026 Great anecdote. We should all follow that. Not mine or many of my teammates in the big leagues because you pitched to 18 years old. Obviously your story is more compelling and true versus someone that pitched professionally to the age of 40 like myself.

@MannyParra26 I was throwing curveballs at age nine. I have no idea what percentage of them I threw. We didn’t do pitch counts. I pitched from ages 9-18. I’m 51 now. My elbow and shoulder have never been in great shape since those days. I regret *none* of it. I’d do it all again tomorrow.

@44dmo No Big Mike, I was simply a spectator. As a former MLB pitcher for 9 seasons and a pitching coach I am often concerned with the arm health of our youth. This kid has a bright future that I hope doesn’t get ruined by arm injury. 123 pitches with probably 105 breaking balls.

@jonsthreecents Learning how to use your fastball will be more beneficial in the long run. They have time to develop the structural support for the torque. No need to rush it. Plenty of pitchers at the college and professional levels never even pitched when they were young.

@jonsthreecents I like to see the fastball as the foundation with the changeup completing it. With the competitive landscape the way it is learning how to spin a breaking ball is fine but limit it. There are so many reasons to do so even beyond arm health.

@rmh25250 Man let’s change our opinions based on your anecdotal evidence. Oh shoot I forgot that I also have my own experience to go off of. Fractured elbow that required a screw in my elbow because I was growing fast at the time. Then battled arm injuries through my MLB career. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@MannyParra26 How about stop spending thousands of dollars for a tournament when you can play locally against solid competition from 8U-12U. Whose dream are you chasing?

@JonChumbler @CPWolfDad Glad you figured that part out. But they’ll do anything to sound smarter than someone who has actually experienced all of this. I’ve known all of this for a long time. They don’t think we learn about this? Wild wild times we live in.

@GWOTJoker The point of mentioning slider is because yes a slider does show higher levels of stress. Ask any pitcher that threw a ton of cutters, sliders, and curveballs, how their forearm feels when recovering and it tells you all you need to know.

@GWOTJoker I have this discussion all the time. A curveball when thrown correctly does not show higher levels of stress but a curveball thrown incorrectly does. And I believe this kid was throwing sliders. When you are 12 your growth plates have space. Makes high volume torque bad.

@GWOTJoker @MannyParra26 Studies show the exact opposite. A properly thrown curve ball puts less stress on the arm than a fastball or changeup

@OogieBoogieCNY @GWOTJoker I’ll refer you to my other response in addition to this. I fractured my elbow in high school because of this. The doctors told me it had to do with the growth plates. Don’t think so surface level. If you don’t mind seeing a highly talented 12 year old throw 90-95% breaking

@KingHalty @GWOTJoker He pitched the whole game, so the volume was there. Otherwise I wouldn’t care. The volume of breaking balls was something I have yet to see from a 12 year old and the fact coaches are calling a game like that shows who they are.
