Stafford has sentimentality on his side, but I think the "valuable" vs. "best statistical season" distinction the AP is using now is important. Could you make the case that Maye was more valuable to his team but Stafford had more TDs/pass yards? I think so.

My extended reasoning for why Drake Maye should win the 2025 NFL MVP:

If strength of schedule is the new excuse du jour to be held against a player in award evaluation, then so too must be strength of roster & coaching. IOW, if you’re throwing to & blocked for & coached by top level [anyones], well, most other teams weren’t. So this unfair advantage must count against you. The principle isn’t a 1-way street—unless it was just bad faith all along 😉
