@sntvizzy If you want Homer, read Homer. If you want Virgil, Dante, etc, who also adapted story, read them. The demand for fidelity to what is an unfilmable ancient poem is crazy. Nolan wasn't going to make Odysseus true to Homer, Odysseus' original virtues are alien to modern audiences.

Homer never punished Odysseus for the horse, he celebrated it, cunning was the whole point, gods included. Nolan completely flips that, making it his hero’s greatest sin, not because Troy lost, but because Odysseus weaponized the very concept of a gift, the symbol of trust itself, to commit mass slaughter. Honestly though, I think that’s Nolan imposing modern guilt onto a man who was never built to feel any, and it kind of misses what made Odysseus Odysseus in the first place.

How did the wooden horse actually violate Zeus’ law?

@valeriiege Projection. Nolan's Odysseus is a deconstruction of the myth because Nolan can no longer create. That's what happens when you adhere to leftist ideologies.

@spqr_sulla but his answer is to the point: the fact that they found a city (several, actually, some earlier than homer, some after homer) close to where homer said troy was proves nothing about the war of troy as narrated by homer. it just proves that there was a city there.

@Snarfalarf @frontierism You've provided no evidence of "suppressing citizens' votes" but you have provided ample evidence of your faggotry and hatred of American citizens. Thanks for playing but I win.

Islam needs to be stripped of its religious status. It is not a religion; it is a totalitarian political ideology that must be banned in its entirety.

Indians are dirt worshiping heathen savages, but they are our dirt worshiping heathen savages. They put up a good, hard fight, and when they lost they wore the flag and put on pants and I’m glad we have them.
Mike Kobe (Wild Horse) 🪶@Oklahoma_Brave

Just a FYI for those interested, only liberal clowns care if you call us "Indians". We don't mind. The best way to refer to us collectively is by our nation. 99% of us never gave any thought to the Redskins, and all my friends thought changing the name was the bigger slap in the face. We don't care if hot White/Adian/Hispanic chicks dress up as NDNs. Just so long as they're hot. We don't really care if you call us Chief, but Tonto will probably earn you a punch. We remain the demographic that enlists in the military more than any other, but rates of domestic violence and other crimes on the reservations continue to be a major problem, indicating that maybe it's not the best way to go. NDNs like Whites, Asians and Hispanics. We're not as relaxed around Blacks and we generally really hate [dot] Indians. Sometimes in film and TV shows you'll see NDNs wearing what may seem like a strange mix of western and classically Native attire. This isn't a mistake. Around the time that the first Yellowstone prequel was set, the majority of Comanche wore "mixed" White/Hispanic and Native clothing. Interestingly, at the same time, the bulk of the Navajo were stubbornly clinging to buckskins and furs. Just some trivia for you.

The reason these accounts stay anonymous is to avoid accountability for the vile, illiterate nonsense they spew. This one was particularly special. Let me break it down for you. He says “suspension of disbelief is a crucial aspect of any period piece.” Suspension of disbelief is the mechanism by which audiences accept what isn’t real. A woman turning sailors into pigs, a one-eyed giant eating men alive, a sea god running a vendetta across the Mediterranean. He’ll swallow all of it, then arbitrarily draw the line at an actress’s skin tone. Make of that what you will. Then he wants “real characters that have a real race” faithful to “the historical record.” There is no historical record. These are demigods and monsters. Circe is a goddess, the Cyclops a son of Poseidon, Odysseus descends from Hermes, Helen is born from an egg after Zeus takes the form of a swan. He wants a “real race” from characters who were never real, in a “time that once was” that never was because this is a myth. Then you’re the 12-year-old if you don’t play along with their ridiculous fantasy. No standard in classical aesthetics demands racial fidelity. Aristotle, who stood far closer to Homer than these bozos, never argued that actors had to resemble their subjects. He ranked poetry above history because poetry renders the universal while history is chained to the particular record, the very standard this clown is demanding. For most of its life, the Odyssey was performed by a lone rhapsode voicing every part, one man playing Odysseus, Athena, the Cyclops, all of it. When Greeks staged these stories, it was men in masks playing every role, goddesses included. Mimesis was never a photocopy of surfaces. It meant the imitation of an action, the essence of what a person does and suffers, because truth in art lies in what it reveals about the human experience, not in matching skin tones. The conservative aesthetic tradition has nothing to do with this obsession with race that these losers are trying to sneak into it. That is their political project. It is not our vision of the beautiful or the sublime. They’re trying to slip through the cracks of a failed education system in the West that no longer teaches aesthetics, but I think most people intuitively sense that their arguments are garbage, even if they can’t fully articulate why, which is why their little boycott campaign is face-planting, including among the right. Good. Let that rank, illiterate Trojan Horse stay on the shore.

I know you guys hate hearing this but universities are open to a wide spectrum of viewpoints. Conservatives are just rarely capable of writing at an academically acceptable level. Sorry man. Stop begging for DEI hires
Tyler Austin Harper@Tyler_A_Harper

Universities and departments have to be more open to a wider spectrum of worldviews. (That includes viewpoint diversity in departments like economics!) The status quo is not sustainable, and quarantining all intellectual diversity to “Civics Centers” is not a solution either. 10/
