Just over a year ago I believed I was dying from stage four ovarian cancer. I thought I had run out of time to give back to my daughter who has made, and continues to make, many sacrifices to care for me. My dream is to produce high quality puzzles using diverse artists who will make inclusive images that will be highly sought after. I'd use the profits to continue to make sure no one in my community is ever hungry, keep the community children in quality shoes and coats, continue to fulfill the dream wish lists for the children and young adults in our community for Christmas, and to one day pay off the home my daughter put the down payment on for me to have a permanent place to stay. Major and concerning development from the chaos of the AI arms race. Last week, a company called Hugging Face (which hosts AI models and datasets) said it had been subject to a cyberattack. This was a completely new kind of attack. For the first time, an AI agent has executed an autonomous attack on another system. Yesterday, OpenAI admitted that some of its models had escaped their sandbox and were responsible for the intrusion. This is a first (at least we hope it is!) and even OpenAI is calling it "an unprecedented cyber incident”. These companies, and the tech oligarchs leading them, are completely out of control. The Carney government is committing a grave error by embracing corporate generative AI with no controls, regulation, or red lines whatsoever. We need a data centre moratorium, and a transparent, national debate on the threats AI poses, immediately. Covered this last night it's bonkers - basically, a jailbroken version of one of their unreleased models broke out of their testing sandbox and hacked into another AI company's servers in an effort to fulfill the ask it was given in said sandbox. It found like 2-3 previously unknown vulnerabilities and exploited them to gain internet access and attack the other company, lol.

Tomorrow, the House will vote on the NDAA, which includes a provision to merge parts of our military with the IDF. This amendment is an existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy. Every member of Congress must vote NO.

The announcement of 50% tariffs on a range of Canadian goods is the latest economic grenade thrown over the border by an out of control President who has lost touch with reality. It is a direct attack on Canadian workers and industries, putting thousands of jobs at risk. And it will drive up costs for American consumers, who like Canadian consumers, are already feeling pain at the pumps and supermarket checkouts because of Trump’s illegal war on Iran. Donald Trump is trying a new, obscure legal basis for this latest attack. If these tariffs go ahead, we must be prepared to fight them with counter-tariffs and put every dollar behind supporting workers in affected sectors. The Carney government must refrain from more concessions. We are tired of being treated as Trump’s tariff guinea pigs.
