Yep, the most underappreciated lesson from the replication crisis is that good science doesn’t boil down to easily automatable criteria. Maxing out transparency & robustness may improve status quo, but epistemic virtues of great science are not reducible to the right workflow.

I think AI is going to be positive for research on net, but I also think there are hazards. We have to be thoughtful about how we incorporate it. I sense a maximalist strain that wants to automate everything without much care, which I’m not enthusiastic about.

After years of iPhone use I still haven’t figured out how to 1) move photos (not copy) to an album and 2) how to position icons on the screen where I want (yes that means empty spaces—you know the feature that’s been around in all OSs since the 90s). Thanks for the help 🙏

Agree. ChatGPT is most efficient and least harmful when you already have enough knowledge and resources to fact check its output. Do not trust it with things you know nothing about!

How I use ChatGPT to learn things: ❌ Don't use ChatGPT to learn stuff if you know absolutely nothing about the topic ✅ Do take a first pass of the material under the guidance of a book or teacher, then take your skills to the next level by self-studying with ChatGPT
