BEWARE of the power of the ZERO: especially when paired w/ the % scale & averaging‼️ 👉Marisol showed great growth, but that 0 at the start depressed her grade 👉Makaylah often scored proficient, but the 0s doomed her to failure 👉Steven avoided 0s & escaped w/ a C

An increasing number of papers are finding that AI is a reasonably good “grader” - often matching human evaluators We don’t know all the biases these systems have, though, and this paper finds an interesting one: (older) AIs prefer their own writing most. arxiv.org/abs/2311.09766

Steve Jobs once said: "The most powerful person is the storyteller." In light of Apple GPT, here is 1981 Steve Jobs with the best analogy of what AI will do to humans: (1) There was a research paper in Scientific American looking at the efficiency of locomotion for species to go a certain distance. (2) Man is inefficient (1/3 down the list), but by riding a bicycle, man can beat everything on the list. (3) Man can be a tool maker amplifying inherent abilities where they fall short. "We are fashioning a 21st-century bicycle that can amplify inherent intellectual ability that man has and take care of drudgery to free people to do more creative work." Steve Jobs described computing as the bicycle for our minds. His model rings even more true as AI augments our intelligence.

Over 4 hours of video feedback for #ETAD 877, thought it would be interesting to do initial reaction video for each student with lots of specific feedback.

Teachers cannot reliably detect AI but might think they can. But can't prove it, even with help of software. Students can't disprove it. And so, trust is broken. We need a different way forward.
