The first (?) interactive TypeScript type debugger. Primarily built for the byte-code/VM of the new type checker, but is actually already quite useful to debug types by simply stepping through it.💪 I will compile it to WebAssembly in the next days to let it run in the browser.

let's be real. many people who looked closely at Bun's codebase knew something was seriously off, there was an obvious bias towards shipping flashy surface-level features while engineering fundamentals were just plainly ignored. stability was the obvious first loser here, Bun became famous for having absurd amount of segfaults and bug reports. many of us stayed quiet because nobody wanted to fight an army of influencers and a massive hype wave, which is quite telling. I genuinely looked at it like it was a new fresh approach of engineering, massive iteration speed and wondered if this would hold through the end-game, aka stability- turns out it didn't, and it was not Zig's fault here. beginners loved Bun, but a lot of experienced systems programmers stayed the fuck out because the instability made it impossible to trust in production. influencers kept free-riding the hype train because that's where the engagement was, and somehow this myth emerged that Bun was some crown jewel of systems engineering but it really wasn't. Bun emerged itself as influencer with all these shit and meme postings, they were extremely good at it, should have created a marketing company to make actual money - it quite hit the Zeitgeist I can only imagine how frustrating it must've been for Andrew to watch this unfold. I got a small glimpse of that myself when I talked with Jarred about joining Bun years ago. Imagine caring deeply about engineering while your language's biggest marketing success prioritized iteration speed over everything else and also becomes one of its biggest engineering liabilities. You're basically handcuffed because that's the project everyone associates with Zig. The sad part is that Bun isn't the exception, it's more a symptom to me, I see it everywhere since years. Our industry used to reward craftsmanship but now it rewards attention thanks to VC's playbook, I see it all over the place, it makes me sick. Ship first, hype harder, rewrite later. Engineering excellence became secondary or non existent as long as you dominated the timeline. Bun isn't your friend. VCs aren't your friend. They're all optimizing for incentives that have very little to do with engineering excellence. Nothing really to blame, as that's the incentive system that we play in. Andrew and Jarred just play a very different game, and I'm definitely on Andrew's side here - I'm an engineer, not an influencer. I have zero interest in playing the attention game, never will. That's generally the character trait I see by all the excellent engineers out there that I know and admire. I'm disgusted by this influencer time line that made all of this possible. Please stand up and call out bad engineering, be loud, and furious if it is required to make it go viral.

Das war auch mein erster Gedanke, als ich dieses leere Gesicht und das selbstsichere Nachplappern gesehen habe. Dahinter steckt aber ein ziemlich simples Anreizproblem: Wo kein Bedarf besteht, entsteht auch kein Anpassungsdruck. Sehr attraktive Menschen bekommen Aufmerksamkeit oft ohne besondere Leistung. Weniger attraktive Menschen müssen eher über Humor, Kompetenz, Status, Persönlichkeit oder andere Fähigkeiten kompensieren; und entwickeln diese dadurch möglicherweise stärker. Fast wichtiger ist aber das Feedback: Attraktiven Menschen wird sozial mehr durchgehen gelassen. Sie bekommen weniger Widerspruch, weniger Korrektur und damit weniger Lernsignale. Genau solche Lernsignale prägen jedoch Charakter, Interessen, Urteilskraft und Verhalten. Ohne ehrliches Feedback bleibt Entwicklung aus. Das ähnelt Lottogewinnern oder Menschen, die mit ihrer ersten Idee sofort Erfolg haben: Man kann weit kommen, ohne die Substanz aufbauen zu müssen, die normalerweise auf dem Weg entsteht. Das ist nicht einmal zwingend ihre eigene Schuld. Wenn die Umgebung dich kaum mit der Realität konfrontiert, lebst du in einer verzerrten Rückkopplungsschleife. Geoffrey Miller fasste den ersten Punkt zugespitzt so zusammen "The human mind and the peacock’s tail may serve similar biological functions", seine These: Ein Teil unserer geistigen Fähigkeiten wurde durch sexuelle Selektion geformt; das Gehirn also auch als Balzsignal. Offenbar war es evolutionär manchmal effizienter, Intelligenz, Humor und Kreativität hervorzubringen, als dauerhaft perfekte Körper.

Damit niemand verwirrt ist. Dies war die Abstimmung über einen Antrag zur ABLEHNUNG der Chat Kontrolle und daher stimmte @MartinSonneborn (wie ich auch) mit JA (grüne Taste). Eine Mehrheit der anwesenden Abgeordneten war zwar für die Ablehnung bzw. gegen die Chat-Kontrolle. Aber: Da es sich um einen Vorschlag des Rates der EU handelt waren 360 Stimmen (Mehrheit ALLER Abgeordneten und nicht nur der anwesenden Abgeordneten) erforderlich. Daher hat man Abstimmung auf den letzen Abstimmungstag vor der Sommerpause gelegt weil dann viele Abgeordnete fehlen!

Die Chatkontrolle kommt. Kein guter Tag für Freiheit & Bürgerrechte…

‼️Breaking‼️ Das Parlament konnte die #Chatkontrolle nicht stoppen. Wir hatten zwar eine Mehrheit gegen den Gesetzentwurf des Rates aber eben keine absolute Mehrheit wie sie in der zweiten Lesung notwendig ist.
