Do the most vociferous proponents of assisted dying never pause to wonder why the majority of palliative care doctors - who do, after all, work with dying patients daily - are troubled by the prospect of legal change at the present time? Doesn’t professional experience count?

@PolitlcsUK Wouldnt have helped my mum who had motor neurone disease then. Couldnt move her limbs. Her last few weeks, in a care home with so called palliative care were, in her words, when she could still (barely) speak the odd word, torture.

The dying person must also take the medication themselves. No doctor or anyone else will be allowed to give the medication to the terminally ill person. As mentioned above, it will also be illegal for anyone to induce the patient to take the medication.

🚨 BREAKING: The Assisted Dying Bill has just been published in full - Must be a legal adult, resident in England or Wales, and registered with a GP for at least 12 months - Must have the mental capacity to make an informed, voluntary choice to end their life - Must be terminally ill with a life expectancy of six months or less - Required to make two signed declarations, witnessed, affirming their wish to die - Two independent doctors must confirm eligibility, with specialist and mental capacity assessments if needed - A High Court judge must review the case, hearing from at least one doctor and possibly the person and others involved - A seven-day gap is required between doctors’ assessments, with an additional 14-day reflection period after the judge’s ruling - For cases of imminent death, the 14-day reflection can be reduced to 48 hours - It would be illegal to pressure, coerce, or deceive someone into declaring a wish to end their life or self-administering an approved substance, with penalties of up to 14 years in prison - Excludes both disability and mental illness as eligibility criteria

I suspect they asked about the appeal of the posters but didnt delve into views on content e.g. does seeing someone quickly trump seeing a qualified dr? Ask what you want to hear?

I’m simply horrified to see @NHSEngland now literally breaking the law in how it misrepresents physician associates & other allied health professional - who are NOT doctors - to the public. These posters are from the Bradford District & Craven Health & Care Partnership. 1/n
