What can you give to a river that needs everything? This Christmas I decided to give my river the gift of life, in the form of willows trees. I headed out on the River Roding in my canoe, from sunrise to sunset on the shortest day of the year, to see if I could hand harvest & plant 100 willows in a day. Here’s how I got on… 🧵

Dan Poulter was an ex junior dr of mine and literally brought in every policy that has destroyed the NHS He is joining the Labour Party so that post election he can be a medical advisor to the next Labour government. It worries me what advice he will give @Keir_Starmer if you want a passionately pro nhs doctor I'd be happy to advise. I've also spent my career trying to help the nhs not destroy it.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

It’s fantastic to welcome Dr Dan Poulter MP to today’s changed Labour Party. It’s time to end the Conservative chaos, turn the page, and get Britain’s future back. I’m really pleased that Dan has decided to join us on this journey.

@CorcoranEamonn Need your eyes checked - absolutely never a penalty. Sutton’s obviously biased (as am I) but I think he’s got this one spot on

Time to say goodbye to all my colleagues @SomersetFT. It was lovely working here for the last couple of years. I met lots of great people and learned from the best, but sadly this journey has come to an end. It is the end of my registrar journey. Time to move to the next chapter.

Interesting first session focusing on the challenges of optimising patient care following bariatric tourism at the @bariatricBOMSS training day, including a nice case study from @SevSoSurgery’s own @naimslim

1/29 We need to talk about these graphs 👇 We have nurses & junior doctors on strike & consultants potentially joining them very soon. Lets talk about inflation & pay. How to fix this car crash (& perhaps more importantly, how NOT to). Please read full 🧵 to end and share / RT

Start at a new hospital tomorrow which has the dangerous combination of an M&S and a long commute. Going to be a daily battle of will power not to have a bag of Percy Pigs for every drive home…

Embarrassing moment in the post office - asked to clarify the postcode on a parcel and had no idea despite it being my writing. Some stereotypes about doctors can be true…

Long but enjoyable day in the saddle - 175km distance, 2800m height gain, and great company at the @DartmoorClassic

Great fun finally having a go on an @IntuitiveSurg robot @asgbi. Looking forward to the day that every GI surgery department has one and even us junior registrars get to play.

@EdNevins @OrthopodReg @RCSEd @RCSnews @rcpsglasgow @RCSI_Irl Think you don’t actually have to pay college fees - until it becomes necessary i.e. covers portfolio or has other significant benefits I’m quite happy not being a member for now, saving hundreds/yr and not using the letters after my name…

@OrthopodReg @RCSEd @RCSnews @rcpsglasgow @RCSI_Irl Trainees paying for it, and not having opportunity to give feedback on how it could be better… Get the impression it has been designed by these two. College fees should cover an e-portfolio… like most of the other training pathways, who all seem to have cheaper membership

said it before & I’ll say it again When I’m a boss, I’ll pay my trainees’ ISCP fee The ISCP benefits trainers, trainees & then profession. as such should be paid for by *all* college membership A tax on learning is not ok #orthotwitter @RCSEd @RCSnews @rcpsglasgow @RCSI_Irl
BoycottISCPfee@IscPfee

The ISCP is mandatory for all surgical trainees. It costs £260 per year every year. With the erosion of pay and increasing expenses of education and training we are calling on the Joint Committee on Surgical Training to scrap the ISCP fee.
