@shortflyslip Win or lose, with the homegrown (!) young talent floating around the region & starting to come through, this could be the start of an Otago rennaissance. After some time.

But Johnson digs in for 57 (165), and Thomas O'Connor - who isn't even on their contract list - conjures up 84* in a match-winning partnership with the impressive Max Chu. Who would bet against them now? Me obviously, as I'm on record saying they won't win it in my lifetime.

So much to love about this Otago team in the Plunket Shield. Led by a rookie coach in Josh Tasman-Jones who is younger than some of the players in their match today, and having not won a single match in the Ford Trophy, realistically only @MarkCurrieNZ thought they could win it.

@MarkCurrieNZ I noticed that early in the PS season, but then saw that their socials still referred to the Volts. Late season, they've gone full Otago, & now I find it weird that they've gone by different names in each format.

For all the talk about dropping the Otago moniker in the SuperSmash, we (subtlely) reverted to just Otago in the Plunket Shield and are now having our best red ball season in some years. Food for thought.

@Sportsfreakconz The forecast is shocking so trying to keep a level head and it's definitely Canterbury's shield to lose. That said, I've just rescheduled four meetings for next Monday just in case I have to come back down the road on day three or four so fuck it, I'm still dreaming. Come on!!

Michael Snedden took his first 5 wicket bag in first-class cricket today, making three direct generations to perform the feat after father Martin and great-grandfather Nessie. Unique in NZ cricket. Martin's uncle Colin also did so, thus covering four generations #PlunketShield
