@RutgersAltRoute A5: Being that mindset is such an individualized element when assessing mindset I’m sure to assess each student as an individual. Every learners unique and I don’t see how it would be possible to assess the class as a whole. #AltRtEd#Growthmindset#elemchat
@RutgersAltRoute#altrted a5. I think giving an option for assessments and more project based learning is important. This gives a lord open ended interpretation of the standards.
@RutgersAltRoute A5: I implement a lot project based learning or allow for choices in assessment style. This allows for student autonomy and also gives them a great chance to show what they know in a way they are comfortable with! #alternateroute#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A4
When giving feedback dont just point out mistakes - point out what has improved, what they have achieved and remark on how they worked hard and it paid off #altrted#growthmindset#ELA
@RutgersAltRoute A4: ELA, rubrics with attached comments allow students to check off how well they’ve met objectives. Student reflection on their own work, particularly writing, allows them to engage in process of learning. #AltRtEd#Growthmindset
@MariaCastiglia7@RutgersAltRoute Yes we all make mistakes! and the students also get good laughs out of it! They’ll make jokes like “you must have forgot your coffee today”…and to be honest sometimes the mistakes aren’t intentional 😂 let’s be real we have all been there!
For Question 3, consider your role i.e teacher, administrator, parent. Think about your current practices or things you'd like to do in the future. #AltRtEd#Growthmindset
@miss_casimiro@RutgersAltRoute Great idea!! I think that this sort of humanizes you as the teacher also and makes you more approachable- definitely going to try this :).
@RutgersAltRoute A2: encouraging that having to try again is OK! may sound silly but there often times where I will purposely make a mistake during a lesson & wait for students to correct me. I’ll model a reaction that shows a growth mindset that I’d like for them to use #AltRtEd#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A3 I will try to encourage using the word “yet” and learning from making mistakes, celebrating corrections and discussing strengths as well as weaknesses and how to overcome weaknesses in a judgement-free environment #AltRtEd#Growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute One of my favorite tools to use is individual mini whiteboards for the kids- so easy to correct a mistake on there plus they feel like teachers using it :).
@RutgersAltRoute Instead “I just need some help” “let me try again” I don’t get it YET” “I need practice” that is the dialogue you want to encourage from all students. This allows room for students to develop confidence & know they will be capable of mastering the skill #AltRtEd#Growthmindset
@nygiantsnjgrl@RutgersAltRoute Love this- I always tell my kids that this is the importance of a good eraser! We can make mistakes and learn how to fix them together.
@RutgersAltRoute A2 Teachers can promote growth mindset by encouraging answers and normalizing mistakes, have students set their own goals, and give ALL students response time, encouraging them to grow and learn every class #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A2 My favorite way to create growth mindset opportunity is to provide choices in the classroom. I allow my students to share opinions and make guided choices within our curriculum guidelines about what interests them to learn about! #growthmindset#alternateroute
@m1lKb4C3real@ASingh60290388@RutgersAltRoute Yes, one thing I remind my kids of is that the best way to feel good about yourself when you're struggling is to do something kind for others! They always feel so much better about themselves afterward.
Here's Question 1! Use the hashtags #AltRtEd#Growthmindset in your response to have your tweets recorded in the conversation.

@ASingh60290388@RutgersAltRoute This is a frequent struggle in kinder, especially when students compare their reading capability to others! When this happens I often ask students to list 3 things that are great at as a confidence boost and reset!
@RutgersAltRoute A1: Challenges of a fixed mindset are in the form of negative thoughts like, “I can’t do this. This is too difficult!” “I’ll never get this right” or I’ll never be as smart as him/her”. Negative thoughts affect how students think and feel while learning.#AltRtEd#Growthmindset
@Spedteacher2022@RutgersAltRoute Absolutely, its so important to be so careful in delivering constructive feedback to these students so that they understand it is meant as guidance rather than criticism.
@RutgersAltRoute A1: Students who believe that they can grow academically tend to be more open to feedback and are more motivated to make changes while those who have a more fixed mindset feel defeated and burdened by their weakness and often lack motivation to change. #AltRtEd#Growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A1: I think one of the biggest challenges is students who struggle with self-doubt. However, we as educators have an opportunity to help them recognize their growth and capability #altroute#growthmindset
@EastlackTracy@RutgersAltRoute Yes! My kids know our routine like the back of their hand and it brings them so much comfort and stability in the classroom, especially for my more anxious students.
