One of the most overrated Mario Kart games of all time

Pokémon games not displaying any animation when a move missed or otherwise fails is very funny, especially for moves where the user "kept going and crashed!" yet very visibly stand perfectly still. Like at least make an exception there

We could talk about the hamster wheel, the ridiculously long block code, having to do the Flopside Pit twice, having to type "please" five times with an on-screen keyboard... Super Paper Mario uses "wasting your time" as game design, for better or worse.

@kuroitoribenkyo One section of the game makes you walk in a straight line for 3 minutes straight. Nothing to interact with, it’s objectively bad level design. But that’s the point, cause it’s remnants of a lively area you were just in that has now been reduced to literal nothingness.

Super Paper Mario is such an interesting game design wise because it intentionally uses shitty design decisions to enhance the game.

@Lhjc_50 @romhackdoting Super good ROM hack. It adds a bunch of features from TTYD including all the badges, partner HP, superguarding, stylish attacks, items, enemies having badges or items, a pit of 100 trials, bonus areas based on TTYD chapters, and changes some partner moves.

@womwithnoo Super Circuit actually has some great track designs and some FANTASTIC music. It's just that the controls are ass and you can't see anything on the road until it's right in front of you

I've literally never heard a human soul say a good thing about either Super Mario Kart or Super Circuit beyond "it was pretty impressive for the time"

@ManiacLady1 @KirbyCheatFurby They both have a standard cue you hit every two beats, a three cue you hit for three beats in a row, and a quick two cue where you hit a beat and an offbeat.

People started speculating that green shells had slight auto aim, which came to be known as "smart bouncing". They don't. Green shells in Mario Kart 8 are just MASSIVE.

the funniest thing about mario kart world discourse is folks being like "nobody wants to play intermissions" because theres been so many times in a lobby there will be a really good 3 lap course to choose and 80% of the players in there will still choose the fucking intermissions
