The plot for ‘SPACEBALLS 2’ has been revealed: “Somehow, Dark Helmet has returned! 40 years after the events of the first Spaceballs, 50 years after the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, and 1 year after the events of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the galaxy is once again under threat. A threat so evil, so unstoppable, so completely lacking in any original ideas, that it has vowed to bring back the past… every last bit of it. With Lone Starr in hiding, Queen Vespa on the throne, and the Schwartz stretched thinner than a franchise releasing TV episodes theatrically, the only hope for the galaxy is Vespa’s undisciplined son, Prince Starburst, and a mysterious Palace advisor named Destiny. The numbers are in, and Supergirl bombed, with only 115.4 million dollars in gross revenue. The projected loss for the movie is at least 125 million dollars, far short of the 315 million break-even point. It was just a movie that no one wanted to see, of a character no one really cared about, acted in a manner that put off the core audience. When the main character has a personality of a rotting piss-soaked paper sack and the plot is a ham-fisted adaptation of an unpopular comic... who in their right mind thought that it would succeed? Tom King's Woman of Tomorrow had a niche interest, and it only charted once with the first issue at #23 in sales... far from what anyone sane would think is a good candidate for an adaptation. It was made for "prestige" critics, the kind that turn their nose to the core audience preferences of bright, sexy depictions of characters like OG Supergirl or Power Girl.

Supergirl just got absolutely bodied again. Ticket sales down 90% from opening weekend — only $3.8M domestic. Now projected to lose $240M DC and Warner Bros really thought cramming in the feminist energy, modern “updates,” and all the pre-release drama with Milly Alcock would somehow work. Audiences said nah. Loudly. Another character gets turned into a lecture instead of a fun, badass story and surprise surprise — nobody shows up. How many more of these disasters does the new DCU need before they stop forcing the agenda and just make entertaining movies again? This one’s heading straight to legendary bomb status.
