It is often said that the lift on a wing is generated because the flow moving over the top surface has a longer distance to travel and therefore needs to go faster. This common explanation is actually wrong.

@almosnow @mathelirium The reason why this works like that is a little less obvious, the long and short of it is, because real air is viscous. If it weren't, at all, this wouldn't ... "fly". ;-)

@Rolando_tillit @mathelirium Correct, but that being the case doesn't make the Newtonian explanation wrong. The vorticity field is the cause for the deflection. But that's probably not what this is about, seems to be more about how you feel.

@Geezer185 @mathelirium It's quite interesting, actually. Bulge of the wing is called camber, the straight distance from leading to trailing edge cord. Any wing, ever, is a compromise between drag and lift, at a given speed the plaine is supposed to operate the most. And altitude (density, friction).

@MariusReinecker @mathelirium Thanks. Yes, makes sense. I was not disputing flat wing would not work - I was thinking of a simple paper plane.

@Geezer185 @mathelirium I does. Nevertheless, a flat wing still works. Aircraft build for speed have barely curved profiles. Reduces drag, too. Strongly bulging profiles you'll find f.i. on gliders (short profile, long wing), or any plane optimized for slow speeds.

@Jesii_ca_M Of course. Those women are the victims and had no choice in the matter, getting forcefully exploited by men. They are completely free of any responsibility, whatsoever.

@LisaBritton I intensely dislike tattoos, particularly on women. I can appreciate the art, if well executed with an overall aesthetic concept I can appreciate. But especially on an attractive woman, it's like gang graffiti on a Greek temple, making them look like a public toiletstall wall.

@kmcnam1 ... the robots probably are the one exception I usually don't argue with. They're mostly pretty polite and helpful, actually. Some too much so, the weasly slimy sycophants can be pretty draining. Not Grok tho. It can occasionally really walk the line to brutal.

@venturetwins That is VERY context-dependent. That the LLM can actually look at pictures and help you craft descriptions is fantastic. For me, half the time, LLMGrok's edited prompts ..suck. But it's a great learning tool for how Imagine imagines, and why the prompt sucked, so you get better.

The new Grok Imagine model is particularly good when you use the LLM to help write or refine prompts ✨ I often start with something simple, take the output to Chat, and ask for help iterating on an edit or enhancement. You end up with something much more detailed!

@elonmusk ... also, you should rename it to "Imengine". Like, Imagination Engine, contracted. Way more cringe, maximum uniqueness and recognizability.

@kmcnam1 All those inkjets also check their ink level and refuse to print when they're still, like, a quarter full, because "else we can't guarantee print quality"🙄 and you have to buy new cartridges when the old ones still had like 100 prints in them. 😠

@elonmusk Were you aware of the parenting trick to check on your kids, telling them to immediately send them a selfie in some random pose you told them? Yeah. You just murdered that in its sleep. Grok is awesome, I work with it all the time, but ... y'know.
