@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling I'm going to actually thank you for the tone of this discussion. I actually learned something and improved my understanding of an important court proceeding.
English
@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling I think you might be referring to the court's finding that the seizures were not in violation of the privacy rights of the affected individuals. It was most certainly a seizure or that section of the case seems like it would have been tossed out at the merits stage.
English
@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling And, the respondents that did have their accounts frozen didn't raise Bill of Rights provisions: 1 (a) the right of the individual to life, liberty, security of the person and enjoyment of property, and the right not to be deprived thereof except by due process of law;
English
@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling I concede this. I've always thought our Constitution was weak on property rights and I should have realized it would had an impact here. I see the appeals court denied the respondents that raised the "Bill of Rights" because they didn't actually have their accounts frozen.1/2
English
@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling and the regulations under it also failed in being constitutional. It was a disaster.
English
@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling I am going to take your broader advice and read the Appeals ruling in detail and I might even come back to this after I have a chance to go over it. I would like to point out that what you're saying here is that it failed the test of invocation
English
@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling and there was no mechanism for those improperly affected to make an appeal.
English
@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling If you look at it again, the courts only accepted that the seizure of assets of people actively demonstrating was reasonable. The decision goes on at length to demonstrate how the scoping, guidance and execution of the seizure order were problematic

@ProducerRobert @CTVKitchener Dumb. CPC Deputy Leader is a lesbian.
English

@CTVKitchener I would be shocked if he supported any other stance. He has long hated all things related to LGBTQ+ matters. In fact so does his caucus.

Pierre Poilievre backs J.K. Rowling's support for new Olympic gender policy - Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is supporting a ruling this week by the International Olympic Committee that bans transgender women from women’s sports at the Games. ctvnews.ca/politics/artic…
English
@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling From a technical standpoint, I concur with that point because the Charter was still in effect. But, the actions undertaken by the Government under the Act were unconstitutional and the invocation of the Act itself was deemed unconstitutional by two levels of courts.
English

@MarkDoRichards @CanadianPolling Every single law is still in effect while the EA is invoked.
English
@DarylDevore X lets you say anything you like, so your post won't get taken down but you, sir, are using the speech of a bigot.
English

I have emailed the Speaker of the HOC to complain about this. I suggest every brain-functioning Canadian do as well.

Hey @jamiljivani did your buddy south of the border @JDVance tell you to pull this stunt? Because it doesn’t fly here in Canada the way it would in the US. We have seen the destruction religious extremism has caused down there. Keep this bullshit out of the HOC.

@CNP_MacFarlane @Mikeggibbs @Garnet_2203 Where do you get calm from? "Look inside yourself, Rosemary"
English

@Mikeggibbs @Garnet_2203 PMMC is calm, intelligent & rational, qualities sorely missing from the opposition. I'm so tired of the hate & constant rage instead of respectful debate & so glad we have a PM who is more than cheesy slogans.
English
@shortstuffpb @CanadianPolling I'll just reply to 1/1 instead of 1/2. I see where you are going with this. But, the Emergencies Act wasn't used to restore law and order, it was actually used to suspend law and saying the use of it is justified because lots of people like it is mob rules.
English

@MarkDoRichards @CanadianPolling It's actually saying the opposite of "the mob rules." It's saying that the mob shouldn't be able to impose itself on a city and make life miserable for weeks on end. That the mob shouldn't be allowed to cut off trade.
And regardless of if normal government powers

@0CynicalBastard @DRodbone Jesus is your saviour. Don't let your politics interfere with universal truths.
English

@DRodbone It is a Quran. Quran is just the Islamic name for the same book Christians and Catholics call the “Bible”. Same scripture. The difference is which passages they choose to highlight.
English
@KrankyKanuck @CanadianPolling It's a very good observation.
English

@CanadianPolling I don't tend to disregard polls I don't agree with, but I feel like the majority of people who actually watched that video are the type of people who would answer positive, so most of the people saying neutral or negative probably didn't even watch it.
English
@acoyne You could put your time into arguing for a constitutional right to property. Try that one on. No more debanking.
English

My latest: Lots of other countries have charters of rights. None has anything like the notwithstanding clause.
Somehow, they are able to get by without it.
