@canadiancal30 @HWDSB It's definitely cold and windy out... The drifts of snow are up to 2cm deep in places (although most of the road and is bare). The safety of school staff definately does matter. Being responsible adults can judge weather they can safely get into the school or need a sub.

Schools and childcare centres will be closed on Fri., Dec. 23, 2022, as a result of the major winter storm warning issued by Environment Canada. The Hamilton-Wentworth Student Transportation Services (HWSTS) has cancelled buses, and as a result, schools will be closed.

@alluringstorms @HWDSB I agree that sometimes the conditions are so bad that the schools should be closed. The problem is that HWDSB covers such a large area that one decision won't make sense for all the schools in it. The decision should be delegated to the principals to decide what's right for each.

@MarkGesing @HWDSB As a former high school student who walked to school every day, It was torture trying to get to school when they only cancelled the buses during freezing rain/flash freeze events. Every sidewalk and road was icy and people were slipping and falling a ton. 1 is smart, 2 is dumb.

@Tristan64119658 @HWDSB On slipperiness: we live in a place where slippery conditions are a distinct possibility for about a quarter of the year. We adapt by shoveling, and salting. Rarely, a storm is so bad that we need to close down to dig out. We shouldn't give up and close down *before* the storm.

@MarkGesing @HWDSB well yeah, but its unfair to the students in school, even if majority of students walk. plus, the sidewalks could be slippery, which can be a threat to the health and safety of students and parents.

@Tristan64119658 @HWDSB On fairness: I think the guiding principle should be that we should minimize the total amount of instructional time missed, instead of trying to ensure each student gets the same amount.

@user6638827636 @HWDSB There was no freezing rain overnight, and none is forecast. Ice on the playground can be a problem, but shouldn't be a reason to close schools.

@MarkGesing @HWDSB The problem is, there’s not just snow, there’s ice. My sisters school has made her and the rest of her school stay inside for breaks because of all the ice. I understand if you have a kid and need to get childcare but cmon??

ALERT: Due to inclement weather and as a result of cancelled transportation, all remote, eLearning, child care, and in-person programming is cancelled today, Feb 25. All HWDSB schools and admin buildings are closed. Safety is always a priority during severe weather events.

@Radiolab let's say the government did mint a trillion dollar coin, how would they get that trillion dollars circulating in the economy? What would become of the physical coin?

@valvesoftware From the video, it looks like the finger tracking of the index controllers is used to good effect. Will I be able to buy an index in Canada by the time this launches?
