@CoyotesAvs12 @CraigSMorgan All the momentum for Atlanta is with the Anson Carter group and the North Point Mall redevelopment project. That group has the deep pockets the NHL is seeking. I was always skeptical of the Krause group.

But the most interesting part of @CraigSMorgan article was at the beginning. This is the 1st I've heard that the Atlanta expansion bid was in 'trouble' and that any prospective new owner probably needs closer to $1 Billion than many millions. I think this would require multiple investors not just 1 owner. If necessary a venture capitalist or even dare I say a sovereign wealth fund as a last resort. Not sure the NHL would approve of that sort of thing. I sure hope @ThomasGalvin is already researching those options🤞.

@dj4aces @JaredYamamoto @NHL There is no chance an expansion team goes Downtown. Sports ownership today is about real estate and multiple revenue streams. State Farm and Centennial Yards is a Tony Ressler/Hawks initiative. Alpharetta (either location) gives the prospective NHL owner a similar business model.

@JaredYamamoto @NHL I agree with you, but considering that the Thrashers basically moved (without getting into deep dive details) because Atlanta Spirit kicked the team out of Philips, the idea will make all the wrong people nervous.

@walsha For those interested, the market is not the reason why the Thrashers moved. It was due to the horrendous decision to approve the sale of Hawks, Thrashers, and Philips Arena rights from TimeWarner to the Atlanta Spirit Group, who never wanted a hockey team.

As I’ve said several times recently, 2 new expansion teams are coming to the NHL. Expect new franchises located in Houston and Atlanta each paying an expansion fee of $1.5 Billion. #34Teams

@JaredYamamoto @NHL No arguments. And again, love what’s going on in south downtown. But my points about Marta and lack of residents still hold. Especially for hockey. And then there is the business part of it. The Hawks own the Centennial Yards project. So they own the revenue that comes from it.

#NHL to Atlanta update Jamestown and New York Life submitted a zoning application to the City of Alpharetta “for redeveloping the nearly 100-acre site into a walkable, sports-anchored entertainment district positioned to bring an NHL team to the greater Atlanta metro.” This is a second group and site trying to bring NHL hockey back to the metro. This is for the North Point Mall area..

New York Life has released renderings of what an arena & entertainment district would look like at the North Point Mall site. Plans include a 20k seat hockey arena, 2k seat community rink, and other attached notes like a movie theater, hotel, and music hall.

@KevinWeekes @Canes @NHL Doesn’t that also include the valuation of the land around the arena for development? The valuation of a potential expansion team could get there after they also build the arena and obtain any necessary land for additional revenue streams. All of which are additional costs.

Hawks hung in there with Magic City promotion as long as they could but too much league pressure, squawking from other teams and possibly other outside forces put Hawks in tough spot. Kudos for trying to pull off a legendary promotion and understanding what our culture is about.

Today’s press release regarding efforts to bring an NHL hockey team to Alpharetta as part of a world class sports and entertainment mixed use district.

This is a curious quote. Isn't there an ownership group in Alpharetta behind this? “... hopefully, our efforts will attract an owner who wants to acquire an expansion team and bring hockey back to Atlanta” said Tim Perry, chief investment officer at Jamestown. #NHLtoAtlanta
