Will Ray (@WakeBaseball) was one of the most dominant relievers on the Cape this summer. The former two-way showcased a high 80s - low 90s sinker from a sidearm slot with plenty of run and a sweeping slider that limited hitters to an average of 68.2 mph EV and a 0.59 xFIP (per @anthony_mar7 as of 7/19). It's a plus pitch that was used more than the sinker and acts as his best offering. He also mixed in a splitter with some sink to get miss in and out of the zone. He appeared in 14 games for the Whitecaps on the Cape, limiting hard contact and base-runners with a 1.18 WHIP, 23 K/2 BB in 22 IP. Ray's stuff played well in the lower half of the zone but was susceptible to the long ball at times. Perhaps adding a four-seam FB that could get some chase at the top of the zone could help his overall profile. As of 7/23, Ray was 100th percentile in hard-hit % and 93rd percentile in opponent average exit speed (per @anthony_mar7). Ray made significant progress in his control and as a result, dropped his 4.9 BB/9 in 44 IP last spring to just 0.8 BB/9 in 22 IP this summer in the CCBL. He was able to make some of the top offensive college bats look foolish (Kurland - sinker, Burress - slider, Martinez - splitter; shown below).

@nextlevelbb @baseballifer11 The elite level p5 programs have a chance to become huge revenue producers, like the SEC schools are now. They will be in a completely different category. It will get much, much bigger. The stage is set for this. p5 is the MLB to college baseabll. All other levels are MiLB

Something that is overly confusing is the "why". Why are schools doing this? Where is the money for the schools? TV revenue? Ticket Sales? Will the schools miraculously make more money from baseball if they spend more? Are they going to build bigger stadiums? Are more people going to actually watch?

As the end comes to the College Baseball season one FACT stands out : This will be the last of the OLD : NORM of college baseball as we knew it ! College programs are being gutted, Pillaged, and with recent legislation, the college athletic landscape will be a NEW WORLD ORDER , The HAVES and the HAVE NOTS. 1. Some college programs will have a decision to make , stay D1 or drop to lower divisions 2. What role will title IX play in non P5 athletic budgets 3. P5 PROgrams will begin paying coaches and staff BIG MONEY 4. All levels of college baseball become “ MILB” for P5 5. Agents/Advisors will play major role where athletes play 6. We will see changes to portal -Must stay 2year min for 4 yr school 7. Will academic requirements/clearinghouse still be required ? 8. College Athletics will have GM’s and Scouting staffs. 9. Coaching Carousel will be AGGRESSIVE

These are the best showcases on the planet in my opinion. Any you can add that I’ve missed ? 1. East Coast Pro - senior year only. Pro scout invite only. East coast heavy. 2. Area Code Games - West coast event / west coast heavy. Started inviting underclassmen. East coast kids trickle in too. 3. PG National - great job with legit invite only. Usually at an MLB ballpark. ——- Underclass 1. PG Jr National 2. PBR Future Games 3. Prospect Wire All American at Vandy *I hear Prospect Select usually has a great pre tournament showcase at Palm Beach Classic. I’ve never been though. What else is super legit out there?

This is Coach Thomas. So for those of you who don’t know. On Sunday 1/28 I woke up with what I thought was severe heartburn. After a few minutes I realized I was way more serious. I called the squad who ran an ekg that showed a possible cardiac event happening. I was rushed to the local er and underwent an emergency angioplasty. A blockage was found and a stent was placed. Unfortunately while in there they found some other problems. The stent stabilized me and allowed me to be immediately transported to a bigger hospital. I was put in the CICU for the night and ended up having triple bypass. Everything seemed tight be going good and I was sent home on Friday. But in the weee hours on Tuesday a real bad pain send the er squad backs to the house. EKG again showed something wrong. With in minutes I was having another heart cath. This time there was a blood clot in the stent placed the previous Sunday. The cardiologist spent 2 1/2 hours removing over 90% of the blood clot. I was then placed on a high end blood thinner where I had to lie in the ICU bed for 14 hours. Fortunately all seems to be going well and I was sent home Friday. It was a crazy ride and a battle I will fight. Thankfully I have ESPN+. That’s the story. I wanted to let people know because they were asking. I thank each of you for your outpouring of love. It’s much appreciated
