Why is it that money is such an emotional topic yet the actual solutions to money issues are / should be, very non-emotional?

Our beautiful daughter spent her first Christmas alone in the NICU on a ventilator and a half dozen drips. We made up for it this weekend with a Christmas in July celebration 🎄🥰

Two solar companies I've come across in South Africa that charge you monthly rentals rather than big upfront installation fees: - gosolr (for households in Joburg and Cape Town) - The Sun Exchange (for businesses - across SA)

@jc_louw At some point almost everything reverts to the mean (very long term average growth rate) and stock markets (mostly) no different - so it’s easy to calc what that numbers is but impossible to know when and how that mean reversion happens!

The US market (S&P500) is now just becoming more and more ridiculous...Stimulus turned this bad boy into a one-way bet, until its not.

@StuartReid1929 @Delphine_DG It’s something we at @ClearglassL are looking at and thinking about, but as the above shows it’s really complex. Maybe base level measures like carbon disclosures are the place to start. Broad ESG measures and ratings just don’t work, yet!

@Delphine_DG There is an opportunity here for somebody to do it well. Which, IMHO, doesn't involve trying to boil all the data down to a rating or selling broad basket ETFs. I am convinced that investors should care about ESG ... I'm not convinced they should care about "ESG ratings".

1/ I looked up Equity #ETFs with #ESG in their description using the Bloomberg function, "ETF" $334bn in total AUM Wow, investors are hungry for this so took a “deep dive” into the largest - $22bn iShares ESG Aware MSCI USA

@MagnusHeystek I have no idea what the future returns of the JSE will be but for more stable developed world like US and Global (MSCI world index), the long term (20yrs plus) are much more stable and they are nowhere near 20-25% pa.

@MagnusHeystek The high returns from the US market over 10yrs are linked to the very poor returns from the decade 2000-2010, therefore combined the 20yr number is much more reliable LT indicator and it’s around 9-11% pa in dollars

@MagnusHeystek 10yr returns quoted are very unreliable expectation of the future. To 30 June 2021, the 20yr return of the MSCI world index in rands (ie incl. rand deprec) was about 10.5% pa … 🤔. Long term rolling return eg. 20yrs are much more reliable (less volatile) future indicator.

If these Reg28 pushers are happy with 11% per annum over 10 years,I am not. Offshore returns have ranged from 20 to 25% per annum over same time. Reg 28 is government telling investors how and where to invest. Not going to happen with my money....

ft.com/content/8cb0c4… @TheFCA market study identified 'poor price competition' in asset management. Remedy was transparency/accountability. Hence SMCR, IDWG & CTI. Data from large-scale CTI data collection by @ClearglassL vindicates this. Congrats to @TheFCA for their vision!
