@ChristanWNBA Laila Lacan, Carla Leite, Pauline Astier, Marine Fauthoux. That is a tough choice for who you starting PG is for the next ten years. I truly believe France will be Olympics champions at some point over the next decade.

I’m just not sure how France takes the next step on the world stage without Pauline Astier as the lead guard

@NiallMGray @dan_routledge If you can't get TV deals to work, then all hope is lost. I don't buy that argument. I think with strategic minds building from an understanding of the different segments of interest you could build a strong multi country broadcast offer in a relatively short time period.

@MarkOnComms @dan_routledge If you're relying on TV/streaming deals in Europe then it's game over already. We both know how little leagues get from TV deals in Europe due to multiple countries and languages. But my point still stands and "causal fans" are not going to fill arenas for it and domestic games.

@NiallMGray @dan_routledge NBA Europe's financial success and failure will all come down to TV deals and getting non-basketball fans engaged with the coverage. This is where Euroleague has always failed. It does a great job with basketball die hards but does nothing to build relationships with casual fans

@dan_routledge This is why a certain European project in basketball hasn't won me over. This is losing money with big fanbases, I can imagine what happens when you start new franchises from scratch with no fanbase....

@dan_routledge I am a Brighton fan so I feel your pain. I had decades of rarely seeing the leather thing in anything other than our own goal.

@MarkOnComms I'd completely agree with that and I'd probably say in that order, with entertainment last. And particularly if you watched some of the rubbish I've paid for this season 🤣

Seconded. Not the terminology I'd use in European sport, feels like we're in a moment where people (football fans particularly) are trying to push back from this sort of concept and revert to more traditional days. Maybe it works, but wouldn't be my start point for sure
Ball in Europe@ballineurope

Sport Entertainment is literally how WWE describes itself. Don't get me wrong, basketball IS competing with entertainment for disposable income but this is not the phrasing you want when trying to win over the European market

@dan_routledge Agreed the terminology is wrong for fans but on a psychological level it isn't the sport on face value you are exchanging your hard earned money for. You are exchanging it for feelings like belonging, the opportunity to communicate who you are to others and entertainment.

@MarkOnComms If fans don't want to hear it, isn't there a danger they might choose not to hand money over though? Just doesn't sound like the right framing to a European audience to me. As a football season ticket holder I only pay for the leather ball going between the white sticks tbh

This shouldn’t be a controversial take - but in a culture where everyone wants something for free and we don’t associate a value with it by default - if you would go to the game for free and are asking for a free ticket, then you should be paying for a ticket. 🎟️🇬🇧🏀

@Keir_Starmer You continue to be a coward on all levels. Your successor can't come soon enough. I just hope they come with far more backbone and determination to do the right thing, not just the easy thing.

The UK has long supported a transition of power in Venezuela. We regarded Maduro as an illegitimate President and we shed no tears about the end of his regime. I reiterated my support for international law this morning. The UK government will discuss the evolving situation with US counterparts in the days ahead as we seek a safe and peaceful transition to a legitimate government that reflects the will of the Venezuelan people.
