While nothing is finalized, the Blue Jays’ talks with Max Scherzer have gotten more serious in the last week per industry sources. Other clubs in mix but Blue Jays now appear to be his most serious pursuer on a possible one-year deal. More @Sportsnet soon.

For people who care to understand how these things work, when a manager is sacked, this is not always the case. Let me explain the options on the table: When a manager is signed, the contract may contain clauses in case of termination. Imagine a manager with 5-years contract, he was sacked in his first year, are you expecting the club to keep paying him for the remaining 4 years? Of course not. There’s a good chance the club isn’t that bad at negotiations, however there are few options for the club. -Severance packages / Lump-sum payouts The clause can specify that in case the manager is sacked, they might just settle the manager a 1-year salary pay out (ongoing payments). That is, they’ll keep paying him his wages for the next one year. It’s less likely they’ll pay the manager for the whole 4 years left, using the example above. Sometimes, instead of paying the manager once, they spread it over 12 months because of cash flow and PSR issues. Now, this part is common, if the manager gets a new job and the new job’s salary is lower than the one he was sacked from, the old club just have to top up and pay the difference. This is also common. Lopetegui got Qatar’s job in May 2025 after being sacked in January, so there’s a good chance the ongoing payments from West Ham reduced (that’s if the Qatar’s salary is lower than what he was earning at West Ham). Let’s also factor the fact that it may be the manager that would resign, the clauses in this case may be different. Maybe they do not have to pay the manager, at least they didn’t sack him. Lastly, if a manager was sacked based on misconduct, there might be clauses for that, and maybe they don’t have to make any severance payments. I hope we learned one or two this morning.

🚨 West Ham are reportedly paying THREE managers at the same time. 🤯 Julen Lopetegui remains on the books until June 2026, Graham Potter is contracted until June 2027 — while the club are also paying their current manager. Total cost is believed to be around £10.5M per year (£875,000 per month) just on manager salaries. 💰 (Source: Claret & Hugh)

🚨💣 𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄: Manchester City insiders privately believe that the "115 Charges" verdict has been delayed due to potential consequences costing the Premier League £2.5bn instantly. The theory is that City holds a "kill switch": 1. If City gets kicked out, stars like Haaland and Guardiola leave. 2. Without them, TV channels allegedly have the right to cancel their contracts. 3. This would instantly cost the Premier League £2.5 billion.

Bro Paul Scholes is one of my favourite ever players. But my god he is so dumb. Park Ji Sung, Edwin Van Der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, Chicharito, Patrice Evra…just a few lf the players you played with that cost peanuts. If the club spends £50m on every player he’ll question that too

🗣️ Paul Scholes on Senne Lammens earlier this season: "You buy this lad from Belgium. What's he cost €20m (£18.2m). I think that tells you everything about him at this point. 'It tells me he's (Lammens) not a top goalkeeper. As soon as that man (Donnarumma) became available, drive to Paris, go and get him, give him whatever he wants."
