This is Marco Rubio speaking 11 years ago about the Iran nuclear deal. He predicts exactly what Iran did and what it would continue to do if unchecked. In doing so, he explains the rationale for US strikes. Iran's radical Shia theocracy has an apocalyptic view of the future. Its goal is to trigger a conflict between the Muslim and non-Muslim worlds. This raises an impossible ethical dilemma: do you wait until a rogue nation has acquired nuclear weapons and used them before disarming them or do you act pre-emptively? Given that Iran has openly questioned Israel's right to exist and attacked all of its neighbours in response to US strikes, it isn't difficult to guess what will happen if the current regime is allowed to prevail, especially if China re-arms it in return for access to oil. Iran has sponsored terrorism internationally for several decades through its proxies. It was the architect of the October 7 attacks against Israel. It provided weapons and explosives that were used to kill British troops in Afghanistan. Iran has directly attacked US bases in the Middle East. It continues to conduct grey zone operations across Europe, as well as in the UK and USA. American strikes against Iran's nuclear programme last year were not enough to thwart its atomic weapon ambitions. It is highly likely that the trigger for US strikes was Iran negotiating with North Korea to obtain ballistic missiles. Regardless, we cannot pretend that Iran is the USA and Israel's problem and not ours. As we have fully discovered with Russia in Ukraine, you cannot negotiate with someone who wants to kill you. It is the same with Iran. Iran has told Britain that we have blood on our hands by allowing the USA to conduct attacks using British bases. We are involved whether we like it or not. The fact that we have already been attacked by Iran should make this clear. (Video H/T @SoveyX )

@nicholadrummond The Winners from this are Russia and China. Russia and China can argue that great powers are entitled to interfere in the affairs of other nations when they see fit. Just look at the USA for an example. You can't argue the USA can attack countries and remove Govts but they cannot

Iran is conducting the mother of all disinformation campaigns to convince the world that America is failing to achieve its military objectives and that the economic consequences of the war will be too great to justify such action. Is Trump failing? It is simply too early to say. So don’t be misled by opinions and speculation. If Trump’s strategy is successful, he will rid the world of the No. 1 sponsor of terrorism, bring peace, stability, and prosperity to the Middle East, and simultaneously weaken Russia and China. These are worthwhile end states. Yes, Trump should have consulted with his allies and maybe not undermined them through criticism and threats to seize their sovereign territory, but do we really want to see America fail in Iran? If the Iranian regime prevails, it will become much stronger, more dangerous, and more belligerent. By virtue of Iran’s alliances with Russia and China, they will become stronger too. Trump is playing a very high stakes poker game. The price of failure could potentially be too high for European nations to allow the US to be defeated. Even without this prospect, the need to avoid long-term economic pain could mean that we will be sucked into this regardless of whether we want to be involved or not.

@so_dontfear @sentdefender Don't think a Naval escort would be enough to persuade a ships owner to put their ships and crews in harms way. Not to mention ship's crews now have the legal option to refuse to enter the Strait of Hormuz.

@sentdefender this sounds like it could either calm things down for global trade or pull everyone deeper into the conflict. Genuinely wondering — what do people think the realistic odds are that Iran would actually attack a US Navy escort group if they started running these convoys?

@catdaddy2025 @sentdefender When the Sharemarket collapsed in April 2025 Trump delayed the tariffs. With the Oil price surging what is his way out here? Will he declare "Victory", claim the "War is over" and send US forces home. Any other President I would say no Way. But he just might do that.
