This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. I am so sick and tired of hearing that rich don't pay their fair share of taxes. (And, no, I'm not rich.) It's just lazy and unhelpful. How about every single person in this country should pay some form of income tax if anyone else does? If you make thirty thousand you pay almost nothing , but you pay something. It would be the best thing we could do for this society. Make everyone have some skin in the game. That's the tough thing no politician will ever say because they know no one can handle that truth. Look at Elon's post here and look at the @TheRabbitHole post he re-posted. Those are facts. And don't come back with, 'but corporations..' garbage, Corporations do pay taxes but they also pay a lot of salaries. We demonize them, but we forget where we'd be if they all went out of business, and also look into what the super rich people that get those salaries at the top of those corporations pay in taxes. Also check into how much the millionaires and billionaires in this country donate to hospitals, sickness, research, and the arts. One hell of a lot. If you want to demonize a class of people, let's maybe talk about the political class. They want us looking at everyone but them. They're zooming left and right norht and south in private planes, have houses stacked and racked, and in fact, they take and have zero culpability about all of the corruption and misspent tax money. That's why it's so damn lazy to say tax the rich.
