Delays to Labour’s defence spending plan are putting billions of pounds of investment in the Royal Air Force at risk. AirTanker, which maintains the RAF’s fleet of 14 Voyager planes, said it “stands ready to invest” up to £2bn for upgrades to the aircraft, which refuel the UK’s F-35B stealth jets and Typhoon interceptors now defending the Gulf from Iranian drone attack. However, the company is concerned about delays to the Government’s defence investment plan (DIP), which was due to be published in the autumn and has left Britain’s military industry “bleeding cash”. “Decisions on critical capabilities – like air-to-air refuelling – must be decided now,” AirTanker said in a statement, urging Labour to unveil the long-awaited spending document. The US administration actively supporting Orban - a pro Russian/anti-Europe/anti Ukraine leader never gets less remarkable. This would be unimaginable 3 years ago, let alone 60 years ago. How quickly these people have dragged the US to unforeseen depths would be quite impressive, if it wasn’t so scary

Agree on cap gap, but writing was on the wall and test case on how not to do procurement, whilst cuts in defence spending had been popular with previous Labour and Tory governments…

That said, the determination for the coalition to rid itself if these British aircraft was clear to see. Furthermore, the austerity-led cuts in defence spending has left the UK extremely vulnerable.

@Always_Boots @TomCotterillX 2️⃣..the competition and contract award all happened during the Blair/Brown era so not sure how it was a Tory issue. Yes, ‘locked-in’ until 2035, when contract is up for renewal, unless HMG wants to break early to consider recapitalisation options being offered ..
