The saddest part about BBQ is it used to be poor people food. Used cheap cuts and slow smoked them till tender. Today it is more expensive than a typical steakhouse, charging $36/lb for brisket. Worst thing to happen to BBQ ever is it became popular. Now get off my lawn

@TracesofTexas hated this bridge when i was a kid it was scary. i used to have this recurring dream when i was a kid that i fell off it and landed in the marsh below only to be eaten alive by alligators. it literally haunted my dreams.

An early, undated view of the famous (and kind of scary) "Rainbow Bridge" in Port Arthur. Built in 1936-1938 to allow a U.S. Navy ship to pass under it, the Rainbow Bridge towers over all other Texas bridges with a 680 ft span and 177 ft of vertical clearance. For a while it was the tallest bridge in the U.S. It's not for the faint of heart, no sirree Bob. My friend Conchie tells me that he used to drive on it in an underpowered 1961 VW Beetle and it was pretty frightening when it was dry and a complete horror movie when it was raining. Last time I was on it, about 8 years ago, I saw a driver texting. Sheesh! Note the folks standing on the walkway on the right.
