Turks have a TFR of 1.11. They are "Muslims." Ethnic Russians also have a TFR of 1.1. But Swedes have a TFR of 1.6, as do Danes, white Americans, etc. Can anyone explain this to me? Why are the based and trad countries worse at having babies than "Atlanticist degenerates"?

@vanhanenist I am not advocating for that, nor have I implied this in any way. You are making things up. In our correspondence so far, the only coherent statement you made was regarding housing affordability. I do not read your mind. If you would like to change the topic, please state so.

*ESL intensifies* Lel Do you know how many people got obliterated by student debt to pay for the institution I got my bachelor's degree from Mr. Capitalist?

@vanhanenist Are you holding it against me that I didn't learn English from reality Jersey Shore? You haven't substantially addressed any of my arguments. And its fine, you are not obliged to. But why sink so to throw a public temper tantrum?

@vanhanenist And what does all of this has to with the housing shortage in Lisbon? Seems like you are hell bent on characterizing me as some evil capitalist.

@Vega_scienc @Anthonio176 @aruvinchan EU certainly has its issues. But the benefits far outweigh the problems. In my experience, the discussions here that touch on EU are not serious. The fundamental aspects are rarely touched and I suspect the average American doesn't understand how the EU works at all.

I think Europeans take for granted living in Europe. You can just buy a ticket on a whim to fly to Greece, Italy, France, England, Slovenia, Croatia, Malta, whatever takes your fancy, for a quick weekend getaway. Often for really cheap too via Ryanair, like way cheaper than Spirit was. I just bought a ticket to Rome from Barcelona for ~€40. 🤯 And you don't even need a passport. Many Europeans don't even have a passport due to the Schengen Area. In the US, if you fly 3 hours away, you end up in freaking Topeka, Kansas with nothing to do. In Europe, you could end up in the Swiss Alps, the Mediterranean coast, quaint Italian towns, French vineyards, the Eiffel Tower, the freaking Colosseum, etc. etc.

@vanhanenist Just called out my flowery prose and now "avaricious". I'm glad you are able make fun on your own expense ;) Ofc, I hold multiple properties in Lisbon & my income as a rent-seeker is dependent on conveying people on Twitter that real estate taxes is bad policy. This is a farce

@rodrigomsf07 @vanhanenist Interesting point, thank you. What is stopping for new entries to the building market if the demand is apparently there. I get it, margins are lower but if it really is only an issue of not enough capacity, then it is money lying on the ground, no?

@MarkkuPrunt @vanhanenist The problem is that Portugal's construction segment was completely recked after 2008 and the part that remains today is completely absorbed by building new, luxury projects, instead of the median class buildings they used to build.

European countries are arming themselves in rapid pace. Swedish Navy, cooperating with Finland, is already formidable and much more capable than the russian Baltic Sea fleet, Finland is also strenghtening their navy with 4 multi-role corvettes. Balance of force is shifting.

Sweden Just Bought Four French Frigates. Sweden has selected Naval Group as the supplier for its four new Luleå-class frigates, announced by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at a press conference in Stockholm on Tuesday. Defence Minister Pål Jonson cited rapid delivery, cost-sharing with France and Greece, and a proven air defence system as the reasons for choosing the French bid. The deal is worth around $5 billion and represents Sweden’s first acquisition of large warships since the early 1980s. Two frigates are expected by 2030, with two more following by 2035. Not a single bolt from a Lockheed Martin catalogue. Not a syllable of Pentagon influence. Stockholm looked at what was on offer, decided it wanted something that actually exists and already works, and wrote a cheque to Paris. The FDI class is already in service with the French Navy and has been ordered by Greece. Crucially, crews can begin training on the vessel immediately – a detail that rather undermined the British and Spanish pitches, which largely involved ships that hadn’t been built yet. This is the pattern now. Germany rearming. Poland buying Korean artillery. Sweden going French. European defence money is circling the continent and largely staying there. For the American defence industry, which spent decades assuming NATO allies would buy American out of habit or obligation, this is beginning to sting. The shift isn’t coming. It has already happened. @aesiraloess8 The Europe vs US trope conveniently forgets about Eastern/Central Europe which makes the whole pissing contest look absurd.

@vanhanenist First of all it's an absurd comparison, I can flesh out why if you can't figure it out on your own. Secondly, if your real argument was that having a large expat community is undesirable, then say that openly instead of disguising it as an argument about rents.

@vanhanenist How does the presence of transient expat community "wreck" Portugal demographically? So, you are saying its better to stunt economic activity by increasing taxation rather than addressing the problem of low supply? What legislation is needed, exactly, at the state level?
