I think Europeans take for granted living in Europe. You can just buy a ticket on a whim to fly to Greece, Italy, France, England, Slovenia, Croatia, Malta, whatever takes your fancy, for a quick weekend getaway. Often for really cheap too via Ryanair, like way cheaper than Spirit was. I just bought a ticket to Rome from Barcelona for ~€40. 🤯 And you don't even need a passport. Many Europeans don't even have a passport due to the Schengen Area. In the US, if you fly 3 hours away, you end up in freaking Topeka, Kansas with nothing to do. In Europe, you could end up in the Swiss Alps, the Mediterranean coast, quaint Italian towns, French vineyards, the Eiffel Tower, the freaking Colosseum, etc. etc.

@Anthonio176 @aruvinchan The percentage of foreign born nationals in the EU is smaller than in the US. So... America is great but the United States sucks??

@AlBonDeega @RemyHabets @aruvinchan You are mistaken. In Spain they expect you to be able to identify yourself. So this means you need to carry your ID. If you are a foreigner (non EU) then I suppose that would mean carrying your passport or some sort of residence document.

No, B says 0% but there’s a 25% chance of choosing it. So that is inherently disproven and B cannot be the answer. At random, you will always pick one answer so it is not possible for it to be 0. You say well then the chance of picking the correct answer is 0 - but that is not the question or this would be very easy. The question is if you choose one of those at random - what are the chances you will be correct. If b is right then you’re asserting the question is answerable. Ok then that’s 25% chance not 0%.

This is why it’s important for models to be grounded in real-world physics. Even when people can’t immediately explain what’s wrong, they subconsciously detect when perspective, depth, and geometry violate the underlying rules of the physical world.

@AciidBraiin @Hitchslap1 But then choosing b means the chance of you getting the correct answer is 25% Since if 0% is the right answer there’s a 25% chance to choose it - at random.

@mindingmyps @mousquitwo @TrueSlazac So then why do you feel so threatened by AI? For many creatives (like writers), AI is a wonderful tool for improving their creative output. It doesn’t have to be "AI replaced my job", why not "AI helped me do my job better"?

@Vega_scienc @mousquitwo @TrueSlazac The quality of writing very, very rarely depends on grammar. And if grammar is an issue, then AI can fix it Even with context (you paste your script) AI can't write a joke. It's soulless This is what I mean when I say AI doesn't know how to write well

@mindingmyps @mousquitwo @TrueSlazac Average human makes lots of grammatical mistakes eveytime they write something, AI does not. And humor is something very contextual, ofcourse AI is going to struggle with that.

@mousquitwo @TrueSlazac Yeah my point is that for a language model it is not very good at language, like it doesn't take a high IQ to write a good tiktok or be a copywriter but AI can't even do that. It fundamentally does not understand what makes writing compelling to people.

@hornaristocrat @Illusory_Ace @Euthenos_ But 1900 is post-industrial revolution so this gives a false image. From 1700 to 1900 europe’s population almost quadrupled. Population growth is not (always) linear. But the main fact here is that we simply do not have enough data to make accurate estimations for 500BC.

@Vega_scienc @Illusory_Ace @Euthenos_ Historically Europe had a much higher population than SSA, x3 in 1900, so it's not hard to imagine how even more sparsely populated Africa was in BCE.

@Illusory_Ace @Euthenos_ Yeah okay but this does not mean much tbh. The chance of this being accurate is very slim. Estimating the population of africa, especially sub-sahara, is almost impossible.

@Miralitt12 @tammy28x @herosnvrdie69 Just looked up some stats: Denmark, Finland, Oman, Austria, Germany, NZ, Australia, Estonia and Sweden all rank higher than US in QoL. Most of those countries are not even close to US in terms of GDP per capita. So maybe it’s not all about GDP after all…?

@Vega_scienc @tammy28x @herosnvrdie69 By the Numbeo QoL index, numbeo.com/quality-of-lif… (and every other QoL index I’ve found) you still rank below us, though you do come in above our poorest states. GDP per capita is very, very closely related to QoL in the long run, though they may be separate in the short run

@Miralitt12 @tammy28x @herosnvrdie69 That just means you don’t understand GDP, just because the "gdp per capita" is higher it does not automatically mean people are wealthier or standard of living is higher
