The brutal, senseless murders of Bebe, Elsie and Alice marked one of the darkest moments in our country’s history. The report today is truly harrowing and profoundly disturbing. It sets out systematic failures that led to this terrible event. I’ve been overwhelmed by the bravery and determination of their families and while nothing will ever bring these three little girls back, I’m determined to make the fundamental changes needed to keep the public safe. I will do everything I can to honour the memory of Bebe, Elsie, and Alice.

@MCYeeehaaa @Johnap87 @SkySportsNews @Catters61 We all know what we saw. Defend Townend if you must , but unfortunately it's to the detriment of racing. NH racing is close to losing its social contract with the public and IMO this was as bad an incident as I've seen in my lifetime involved with or watching racing.

@MCYeeehaaa @Johnap87 @SkySportsNews @Catters61 it was quickly airbrushed away giving ammo to the Anti lobby. My opinion is that racing media don't seem to get that ? My considered view is that Townend should've had the book thrown at him.Hypocrisy is then the young lad in the GN getting a ban ! Thanks 4 reading my view 👍

@MCYeeehaaa @Johnap87 @SkySportsNews @Catters61 100% he knew. Why pull up the first chance passing the line ? Because he knew . He'd have felt the horses action go landing over the last, in fact u can see he DID ,but chose to carry on simply bcos the horses adrenalin/momentum enabled it . But that doesn't make it right.

Covid was the biggest scam in human history. 9/11 was second biggest scam. The moon landing was third biggest scam. Artemis comes in at number 4. What else did I miss?

@mjyharris To suggest he didn’t know is preposterous, jockeys know when something isn’t right. Something as catastrophic as that and then suggest it happened after the line??? Yeah of course it did. Abysmal. Then they ban Toby Mitchell McCain for 10 days for not pulling up his mount ffs

I was standing on Ascot Heath for the Clarence House Chase in January when a tired Il Etait Temps and Paul Townend fell right in front of me at the second last. When horses fall I always look for them to get back on their feet quickly and I am always looking for them to continue with the herd and to check that they are sound. Il Etait Temps did not get up quickly. In fact he stayed down for a considerable amount of time. His jockey, Mr Townend stayed with him. The dreaded screens went up and they stayed up for a good 10 minutes. The horse ambulance arrived and the Ascot veterinary team were heavily present. Paul Townend remained with his horse showing considerable care. The longer the situation went on the more I feared the worse for the horse. I thought back to the Cyrname incident at Ascot which gave me some reassurance but I’d begun to give up hope. Paul Townend eventually emerged from behind the screen and I shouted to him asking if his horse was alright. He gave me the thumbs up and he got into a car to take him back to the weighing room. Seconds later the screens came down and Il Etait Temps walked soundly into the horse ambulance. Such a relieve. This horse went on to be a fantastic winner of this year’s Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival a couple of months later. I cannot possibly believe that Paul Townend would knowingly ride out a horse that he knew was injured. It beggars belief to think that anyone would believe that. That day at Ascot his prime concern was for the welfare and wellbeing of his horse and I find it inconceivable that that behaviour would not be a constant in his character and be the same for every horse that he rides.

@mjyharris Sorry Michael but have to disagree with you this time. He lost his action and speed straight after the fence, Paul T pushed and hit him which is why he ran on. Winning the race was far more important than the horse's welfare.

@mjyharris Great story. But unfortunately at Aintree his actions were those of a man who should be banned for life.

@ThomNolan I love horse racing But I'd look Paul Townend in the eye and say he should be banned for life. Nothing less.

Let’s be honest, those calling for the banning of horse racing could not give two hoots about horses. They are triggered by the fact that people might actually be enjoying themselves. They are puritanical demons. People should not be fooled
