@mooroobee @IrrefutableSub1 @28delayslater Roads aren’t designed for drivers without hands on the wheel. Sleepy/drowsy drivers still have hands on the wheel which made it less of a problem if there’s a slight pull along with a noise to wake
Also there is the matter of momentum from the curve. This vid is easily freewheel

Go try it. They don’t pull the car noticeably and certainly don’t jerk the wheel like it happened here. If they did, they’d be a source of accidents as they’re intended to alert sleepy or drowsy drivers. Can you imagine what would happen if they pulled the car in the exact opposite direction it needs to go to avoid an accident?

@mooroobee @IrrefutableSub1 @28delayslater The purpose of rumble strips is to alert the driver, not redirect cars back onto the road. They ABSOLUTELY pull steering wheels towards them if you’re not holding it.

Actually, yes, I would say that listening to an audiobook isn't the same as reading. The entire point is that you can do something else while listening. No one gives their undivided attention to an audiobook. It's a cheatcode to avoid having to actually read.

Even so it’d be easy to point to road conditions if nothing was on the steering wheel. Leading wheel off the road catches the rumble strip would cause a steer in that direction if nothing’s holding it

I find this very sus because the steering wheel jerks to the left after disengagement. Doesn’t just come to the center as it would without driver input. Likely what happened was the driver was busy with something and unintentionally applied force to the steering wheel to cause the disengagement and the turn to the left.
