My PhD supervisor told me “if you don’t have so many good ideas that you can’t let a few go to other folks, you’re probably in the wrong business”. That has always stuck with me. I think the measure of a researcher is what they do with the ideas they don’t have time to pursue.

So much of bioinformatics is endless writing of parsers for file formats written by software, and it just shouldn't be this way. This is needlessly time-intensive, bug-prone, and prevents higher-level abstractions from being developed. We need tidy bioinformatics.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but R is superior to Python for statistical analysis. It’s not even close.

Happy to share our new chapter on the potential of producing biofuel from Energy cane and Agave. Energy cane is a more resistant and productive hybrid than sugarcane. Agave is highly productive and grows well in semi-arid regions. It's out: link.springer.com/chapter/10.100…

About to submit your paper? Did you know that the References are the part of a paper most often overlooked? 😳 It's not only damaging science but also making desk-rejection more likely. Here's a 9-point references checklist for you to keep. 🔖 1/n #AcademicChatter

Never promote overwork. It's not a sign of passion or dedication, it's misguided & deeply unhealthy.
