This is why the Middle East needs a wilsonian solution, so that the extermination and erasure of minorities can no longer happen. So that wars can no longer be justified. Oddily there is a chance the Middle East might be the place where european enlightenment survives.

Today morning, amidst the conflict between Iran and Israel, another mass grave was found in the Siba Sheikhdiri complex in Sinjar. This grave holds the remains of Ezidi individuals killed by 1S1S in 2014. The Ezidi people are still suffering, and the genocide is still ongoing.

Israel in fact demolished and depopulated the whole Moroccan quarter and the historic Buraq Mosque weeks after the 1967 war. Jordan kept almost everything in tact with a few minor exceptions.

@gnuseibeh They demolished the entire Jewish quarter, including every synagogue, and then paved a road with Jewish tombstones. The road is still there.

@gnuseibeh The revered Jewish graveyard on the Mount of Olives was in complete disarray with thousands of tombstones broken, some of which were used as building materials for roads and latrines. Large areas of the cemetery were leveled to provide a short-cut to a new hotel.

Actually this is misleading. Jordan never banned any Jew from worship. The reality was that after the 1948 war, Christians and Muslims were banned by Israel from their homes in West Jerusalem (inc many members of my family), and Jews from East Jerusalem.

Some perspective: The Israel Police made a massive mistake by not allowing the Patriarch to pray. That was one morning. The Kingdom of Jordan prohibited Jews from praying at the Western Wall and Temple Mount for 19 years! And the world was fine with it.

A growing number of Israelis are leaving the Haredi world. Exit rates from Haredi society hit a low for those born in the early 1970s (~6.5%), then rose steadily. For those born around 2000: nearly 12%. The movement is young: half of all exiters are under 30.

Je vous jure, je mets BFM TV en fond pendant que je bosse, et j'ai l'impression d'halluciner dix fois par jour depuis trois semaines : le discours ambiant sur l'Iran est l'exact calque de celui des prorusses sur la Russie depuis quatre ans : "Ils ont plein d'ingénieurs, ils aiment la littérature, c'est dans leur nature ils sont résistants, etc". Lesquels prorusses tiennent d'ailleurs le même discours à propos de l'Iran, mais pour eux c'est logique. Pour les médias mainstream, c'est l'anti-trumpisme qui parle. Résultat : vous entendez désormais les mêmes choses que vous écoutiez BFM TV ou Xavier Moreau. Et c'est toujours autant n'importe quoi. Consternant.
