All of us at UNICEF are devastated and outraged by the killing of our colleague Karine Buisset in a reported drone attack in Goma, DRC. My immediate thoughts are with the family, loved ones & colleagues across UNICEF. Civilians, including aid workers, must never be targeted.

The situation for Palestinians in Gaza is beyond description, beyond atrocious & beyond inhumane. A policy of siege & starvation makes a mockery of international law. The blockade against humanitarian aid must end immediately. This is a moment for moral clarity & action.

After more than 1,100 Israelis were killed in the Hamas terror attacks of 7 October, after more than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, haven’t we seen enough? Haven’t civilians suffered enough death & destruction? The international community has a shared responsibility to promote a humanitarian ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages, and a massive surge in life-saving aid.

This baby has a congenital heart condition and can't get treatment. Children in Gaza, including those held hostage, urgently need access to life-saving supplies and services, and aid workers need to safely access children in need.

.@UNICEF strongly condemns the strike on the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza w/ hundreds of civilians reported killed & injured.
 We call for the protection of all civilians, incl children, & the infrastructure they rely on.   We need an immediate ceasefire & humanitarian access.
