@robhawkes I'm on Norwich to Tilbury route. I'm less than whelmed by prospect of few hundred pounds off my bill than I would be for compensation for the many thousands of pounds of lost house price value I'll suffer. There are 77k people like me within 750m of a 50m tall pylon

@eddify @energygovuk @OctopusEnergy @g__j it'll take a lot more than that to overcome opposiution. You're talking hunderds. The actual costs to those impacted in many thousands. Compensation for substantial losses in business and home values near to infrastructure would be a start.

Sometimes there is too much wind for our outdated grid to handle, especially in Scotland and the East of England. Rather than paying wind farms to switch off we’re trialling a new system where people who live near these constrained areas get cheaper - or even free - electricity.

@JavierBlas All those days of missiles to degrade Iranian capacity to retaliate, and it took them just a few hours for seemingly a still accurate strike.

BREAKING: Qatar says that its Ras Laffan industrial city, home to a massive LNG plan, was hit by Iranian missiles. "Emergency response teams were deployed immediately to contain the resulting fires, as extensive damage has been caused." Note the wording: "extensive damage"

@MartWhit @ajsrugby You could make a point that the deliberate knock on doesn’t happen if France aren’t awarded a penalty for a high tackle anyway. But that’s for hindsight

Would love to see the high tackle again but huge balls by Ramos to sink that kick. Much better by England, even with some baffling decisions against us (also some baffling decisions by us) France deserved Champions #FRAvENG #GuinnessM6N

Worried about what the Iran War means for your energy bills? Wholesale gas prices have more than doubled this week. Greg breaks down exactly what's happened, what it means for your bills, and what comes next. 👇

@julianHjessop fortunate bit is we're pricing in Q3'26 now, so the averaging period for prices in Jul'26-Jun'27. So the highest prices, which is in next 3 months, are already not part of the Price cap averaging.

UK natural gas prices also up sharply 👇 Prices are still well below the 2022 peaks and the Ofgem cap will shield most households from the latest surge until July. But there is plenty of room for more increases and the cap may just delay the pain... 🫤

@georgeeaton It simply isnt SVT & Wholesale Gas price are OFGEM data not any interpretation Gas prices have consistently fallen since Apr'25, SVT has not. The largest driver of this is increased Network cost. Other policy decisions like Capacity cost & CfD also contribute

The main reason UK energy prices are so high is not net zero but the fact the price of gas still sets the price of electricity. Breaking that link should be the priority.

@pardoejw Just t be clear, we are nowhere near the crisis levels in terms of gas and power prices at the moment. we'd need sustained 200p/th+ gas to get towards price levels around the previous EPG level.

The last time we subsidised everyone's bills (a whole four years ago) it cost us about a defence budget's worth of cash. We just gonna do that every time there's a gas shock? We need to cut our oil/gas import dependence to minimise the damage.
Sam Coates Sky@SamCoatesSky

Patrick Maguire reports what we said was likely on Thursday's podcast: the government is being dragged into thinking about subsidising energy bills thetimes.com/comment/column… Instead, the talk inside government has turned, just as it did in 2022, to state subsidy for consumers who could very soon find themselves paying a steep price for events that this prime minister is unable to control — even though the lowered energy price cap will protect bill-payers from any shock until June.

This is the big one for me. CCS is not perfect. But if England don’t select their biggest physical gainline threat - with and without the ball - it shows the coaches haven’t even recognised the problem. Which gives you little hope they’ll solve it. Of course I want to see Fin Smith, Seb Atkinson and Furbank. More than I can express!! But if we don’t massively up the intensity on the gainline, it will be irrelevant what backline we pick.

Well perception can be inaccurate a 10c day with a cool wind and rain will not feel mild, but it still is relative to norms. February 2026 has been exceptionally mild. Most of Southern England +3C above already warmer latest 30-year baseline. The same anomaly in summer would make a hot month.

@TheSnowDreamer And yet until the last week it has never felt mild in Kent. A strange month, exceptional rain, minimal sun and chilly daytimes in the main

@MartinSLewis for the people tweeting that its seasonal that is not how it works Each quarter OFGEM uses average prices for a rolling 12mth period For this Q2 they used an average of Q2'26 Q3'26 Q4'26 & Q1'27 weighted to reflect higher consumption in winter.

@MartinSLewis @itvMLshow Just dont let him peddle gov't positions. In particular 'high and volatile international gas prices'. This is avg Gas prices for the recent SVT periods using OFGEm methodology. Iyt doesnt look like the SVT price. He's supposed to be a consumer champion, just like yourself.

Do you have questions for Ofgem (or me) on energy bills? The Ofgem boss is joining me on this week's @itvMLshow, the eve before the energy Price Cap announcement. A 7%ish fall is likely, though fixes are far cheaper. If you've Qs pls suggest em by reply here or email the team at martinlewis@itv.com PS IF POSSIBLE PLS SAY WHETHER Q IS FOR ME OR OFGEM BOSS
