@davidroundmw I have been “invited” to provide tasting notes and/or judge at such events and the (incorrect) presumption is that the opportunity to taste wine is payment enough, especially for those still studying.

This week MWs and students were invited by the UK office of a national trade association to be judges in a wine competition. Not paid, but a light lunch provided. The expectation that people should give their expertise for free is a major barrier to diversity and inclusion.
