@FifthThird Wouldn't recommend @FifthThird to anyone. The company has given us the run around, and we will be filing a mortgage complaint. It's UNACCEPTABLE when all we want are solutions. Speaking to the escrow manager, Lex, was NO help! Left a message with his manager, Mary and NO answer.

Soooo grateful to the @FISD_EB for gifting us @nancymotleyTRTW 's Small Moves; BIG GAINS book. I'm super excited to share very simple and small moves with the teachers on my campus. Hoping to build some new teacher habits!

Joey, like most kids, just wants to be involved. Yes, it could work on our school we just simply need to be on the same page. We all have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable at first as it will take time for plan B/CPS/ALSUP to become streamlined and easy for us all.
Noel Smith ES@smithelem_Noel

12. Overall, how did you feel about the resolution of Joey’s challenging behavior? Does it seem realistic? 13. How can you see CPS/Plan B working in our school? What would have to happen for our school to implement this? What obstacles would have to be overcome? #smithlearns

If you'd like plan B to be successful, the teacher must start from the beginning if the year and be consistent with it. By doing this, the students become used to be collaboraters with you as unsolved problems arise. #smithlearns

On p. 208 Mrs. Woods attempts to use Plan B with her entire class to address a class issue. If you want to use Plan B with a group, what groundwork needs to be in place to make sure it’s successful? What is your reaction to how Plan B plays out with her entire class? #smithlearns

A personal difficulty would be trying to remember what to say for the kinda lagging skills shown in the empathy stage. There are so many options and I'd want to make sure I'm getting the most "bang for my buck" in the beginning stages of the convo.

9. What are some of the benefits of using Plan B? How does this plan differ from what you’ve used? What might be some obstacles to doing the three steps involved in Plan B? What are the benefits of the Empathy step? What might make this step hard to implement? #SmithLearns

A benefit of plan B is working collaboratively with the student. The student may a tad less anxious when approached as a partner. The empathy steps seems like a great conversation starter and helps gain a better understanding from the student's perspective.

Plan A is teacher led and doesn't involve the student. Plan A is often just consequences if the student doesn't follow orders. If the teacher is successful with Plan A it is because the students was not lagging in that skill.
Noel Smith ES@smithelem_Noel

8. When teachers’ expectations are unmet, they often respond with Plan A. What exactly is this plan? Even if teachers have been successful with this plan, how is this different from simply communicating an expectation? #smithlearns

I think the list is pretty accurate. One that resonates with me is difficulty to manage emotional responses to frustation. Over the years, teaching students from all walks of life has alllowed me to see that a lot of outside factors contribute to lacking skills. Sometimes it ...

Smith Staff Book Study Q.5: Dr. Greene proposes a long list of life skills that kids with challenging behavior are lacking. What is your response to this list? Which items resonate for you based on your experiences? Would you add any life skills to this list? #SmithLearns

Unsolved problems are the scenarios that involve the challenging behavior. Lagging skills are the underlying issues that need to be addressed in order to begin repairing the problem. Dr. G says begin by determining which lagging sk. applies to the student.

Q.7-Dr. Greene describes two culprits of children’s challenging behavior: lagging skills & unsolved problems. What is the difference between them? What does the author believe should be the first step in addressing challenging behavior & how can the ALSUP tool help? #SmithLearns

Dr. Greene tells us that students will do well if they've been explicitly taught or already know their expectations. We react using Plan A a lot of times because we feel like the child "knows better" when in actuality, maybe they don't. #Smithlearns

4. How is Dr. Greene’s philosophy of children (“Kids do well if they can”) different from the prevailing view (“Kids do well if they want to”)? How do these differing views affect the way adults approach behavioral issues? #smithlearns

Our system isn't working because our reactions are mostly rewards and consequence based. Students need to be taught their expectations just like we teach academic skills. Some students are lacking in areas and we should help fill those gaps. #Smithlearns

@smithelem_Noel Dr. Greene is telling us that the children are having difficulties with various lagging skills and unsolved problems. The skills and problems present themselves as sometimes non compliance and/or aggressive behavior. #SmithLearns

@smithelem_Noel The teacher might've taken a less boisterous approach with him in the classroom. Maybe met him at his desk and try to help rather than embarrass him. Seems Joey suffered the most in the scenario.
