With Operation Freedom now being put on “pause” after the Trump Administration spent the entire day talking about it, one thing has become increasingly clear: Iran KNOWS how politically untenable it now is for Trump to resume military operations, and they’re now increasingly leveraging this. With more and more information coming out that yesterday was not the “first time” an American vessel has been fired on during the ceasefire, Iran is becoming more and more emboldened. Targeting a U.S. vessel? Not serious enough for a response. Launching missiles at the UAE? That’s just a small oopsies. With the U.S. blockade proving to be one of the most strategically disastrous moves we could have made, it is clear that the economic warfare campaign is not succeeding, we do not have the political will to turn back to kinetic strikes (at least not without MORE severe actions from Iran), so… what DO we have now? Unless Trump is able to pull a rabbit out of his hat, the United States has lost this war. Iran did not win, the United States lost, and that difference will go down in history.

$250M. $300M. $400M. “All paid for by donors.” Trump’s lying isn’t a character flaw. It’s the business model. When Trump opens his mouth, assume the con is in progress. Now Republicans want $1B for his ballroom and are calling it “updated security.” Even if you believe that, taxpayers are still footing the bill for his golden ego facade.

@RepMikeLevin "The SAVE Act would prevent millions of Americans from exercising their constitutional right to vote." Bring one out so we can interview them. I want to talk to these people who are completely incapable of coughing up a few bucks and some time to get proper documentation.

Washington Republicans are trying to make it harder for you to vote. Not non-citizens — you. The SAVE Act would prevent millions of Americans from exercising their constitutional right to vote. We should be making it easier for eligible citizens to participate in our elections, not harder. This bill does the opposite, and everyone in Washington knows it. The SAVE Act is not about election security. It is about disenfranchisement.

If only Black voters cast ballots in the 2026 midterms, Democratic would win control of every seat in the U.S. House, a 435-0 margin.

We need a Constitutional Amendment (or maybe several) that does the following: 1. Bans Presidential pardons after Election Day (and before Inauguration Day) 2. Bans partisan and racial gerrymandering 3. Bans redistricting mid-decade 4. Requires Congress to increase the House

In 2004, the Democrats fought like hell for around 100,000 votes in Ohio to try to switch that state's electoral votes from Bush to Kerry. Had they succeeded, Kerry would have won the Electoral College and become president. This, while Bush had around three million more popular votes than Kerry. Three million. Anybody think that if Kerry had somehow managed to land Ohio, any Democrats would have been calling Kerry an "illegitimate" president because he was three million popular votes behind Bush? Me either. The noise the Democrats are making about the Electoral College is the same as the noise you hear about filibusters, or anything else. If it gains the Democrats political power, it's one of the main foundations of our democracy. If it loses the Democrats power, it's an archaic remnant that needs to be ditched as soon as possible. Flip back and forth as necessary.

Not everything is about Trump. I just believe every citizen's vote ought to count the same. And that the person who gets the most votes ought to win. Also, wouldn't it be nice for Utah to no longer be ignored in presidential politics?
Mike Lee@BasedMikeLee

(1) Donald Trump won both the electoral college AND the popular vote—so if we did as Pete Buttigieg suggests, Trump would still be president. (2) If you don’t like the electoral college, you don’t like the Constitution.

@RNicholasBurns There are few more well-known sinecures in government, positions handed out as political gifts, than "ambassador" and "foreign service officer."

The State Department fired 200 experienced U.S. Foreign Service Officers today. No Administration has been more dismissive of our nonpartisan career diplomats. Shameful.

The ballroom went from $200 million & privately funded, to $300 million, to $400 million and taxpayers cover some of it, to MAGA trying to silently jam through $1 BILLION, 100% of which is our tax money, for this ballroom. WASTE, FRAUD, AND ABUSE IN THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION.

@tedlieu At this point, you're pretty much insane. The depressing part is that you're also in an important position in government.

BREAKING: Ron DeSantis has just confirmed that he has signed the new Congressional Districting map in Florida into law. It’s expected Republicans will pick up 4 seats in the U.S. House with these changes. Republicans can’t win traditionally so they need to keep changing the maps.

No one has ever explained to me how what I did in Iraq and Afghanistan made anyone’s lives better in Sullivan, Maine. Our foreign wars are good for a lot of people: defense contractors, draft-dodging politicians who want to feel tough, Benjamin Netanyahu. But not for us.

After the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act last week, the pro-democracy movement is in for a long, hard fight. But @marceelias is optimistic. “We are not going to restore the Voting Rights Act of 1965,” Marc says. “We are going to exceed that law with something new built for the current moment.” Join our fight for free and fair elections: bit.ly/49Rv27Q
