The USDA has kept raccoon rabies out of the central United States for over 30 years by air-dropping fish-flavored ravioli from helicopters.
Each one is a small packet coated in fishmeal with an oral rabies vaccine inside. Raccoons, foxes, coyotes, and skunks find them by smell, bite through, and swallow.
Many animals that consume the bait develop immunity, helping build a protective barrier across populations.
The bait is generally considered safe for pets and tested in many non-target species.
The USDA's Wildlife Services has been running this since 1995. Without the bait program, raccoon rabies very likely would have spread much further west.
A federal program you've probably never heard of is protecting your pets and your kids by feeding wild animals ravioli from a helicopter.

What went wrong with The Boys finale?
- No world-ending level threat. No Supe army fight.
- Soldier Boy arc conclusion was awful
- Sister Sage completely wasted.
- Fights were weak as hell, nobody used their full powers, just a slow boxing match.
- Deep stayed stupid.
- Gen V characters showed up for nothing.
- Dog died randomly out of nowhere.
- Butcher gave up on killing all Supes way too easily.

@nexta_tv The problem with West is that, they eliminate any autocratic leaders who doesn't dance to their tunes but will have no problem with autocratic leaders who dance to their tunes, this hypocrisy is why most countries don't support Western narrative against Russia.

Maduro’s son reveals how the former Venezuelan dictator is living in a U.S. prison
Nicolás Maduro is being held in a shared unit with 18 inmates.
The ousted dictator spends his time reading books and learning English.
Half of his cellmates speak Spanish, and Maduro is allowed to call his family every day.
His regime’s victims never had such conditions — many were brutally tortured and killed in secret prisons in Venezuela.

I don't think they should have backed down from the civ switching mechanic, I'm worried they're building the game for people who have already written it off instead of building the game for people who are actually playing it.

if you didn't know, the main gimmick of the 7th game was that you would change civilizations per new "age".
so if, for example if you started as french in antiquity and the age shifts to exploration, you are REQUIRED BY THE GAME MECHANICS to change to another civilization.
it was a baffling decision because one of the draws of Civ is bringing your chosen civilization to victory from mud huts to space.
glad that they did say "we got it wrong"

You’ve probably seen this photo. Most captions floating around the internet say it’s a soldier carrying a donkey through a minefield to clear a path.
That’s not the real story. It was taken in July 1958, in the deserts of Algeria, during the country’s war for independence from France.
A French Foreign Legion patrol came across an abandoned baby donkey, starving and too weak to walk. One of the soldiers picked it up and carried it back to camp on his shoulders.
They named it Bambi. It became the unit’s official mascot, was given full soldier rations, was banned from the camp bar for getting drunk too often, and was eventually promoted to Private First Class.

@jjeebhoy @okaythenfuture Italia 90 was the best World Cup and it’s not even close
English

The World Cup starts in 30 days and legit barely anyone cares.
In America, probably barely anyone knows the world’s biggest sport competition starts in a month.
This has been the worst rollout for the World Cup I have ever seen in my life.
It was a mistake to award it to Modern America.
It’s no longer a serious society.

Ukrainian mathematician Maryna Viazovska solved a problem that had puzzled mathematicians for over 400 years. Even Johannes Kepler and Isaac Newton couldn’t crack it.
We live in a three-dimensional world, but Maryna solved a puzzle in an eight-dimensional space—something that’s very hard even to imagine.
She was born in Kyiv, studied at Taras Shevchenko University, worked in Bonn and Berlin, and at just 33 became a professor in Lausanne.
So what was the problem? It’s about how to pack identical spheres as tightly as possible in space. This question was first asked by Kepler back in 1611. Over time, scientists found answers for two and three dimensions—but not for eight.
Maryna proved that in eight dimensions, the densest packing is formed by a special mathematical structure called a lattice. What’s even more amazing is that she did it in just 23 pages, while earlier attempts took hundreds.
In 2022, she was awarded the Fields Medal, the most prestigious prize in mathematics. She became only the second woman in history to receive it.
Today, Maryna Viazovska works in Lausanne, supports Ukrainian mathematicians, and brings pride to Ukraine with her achievements.

Merz suggests Ukraine may have to accept territorial losses to pave the way for EU accession – Reuters.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz suggested on Monday that Ukraine might have to accept, in a future peace agreement with Russia, that part of its territory would remain outside Kyiv's control. He linked such concessions to Ukraine's chances of joining the European Union.
"At some point, Ukraine will sign a ceasefire agreement; at some point, hopefully, a peace treaty with Russia. Then it could happen that part of Ukrainian territory is no longer Ukrainian," Merz said on Monday.
Merz neglected to mention that this was due to incompetent politicians like himself, because they did not provide sufficient support to Ukraine despite their promises.
